I'm still using my old Thermaltake BigWater 735 block. Modified, I removed the acrylic top and made a steel plated top with the barbs brazed to it. I also cut the 4 ears sticking off, which I could have left on for more surface area, but I thought square would be easier to fabricate the top plate. Have a copper plate that, someday, will modify and replace the steel top. Just haven't gotten around to it. The block you see in my avatar is what this used to be. Additional comment: I also made my LN2 pot from another identical to this one. Worked better for DICE, but used it lots with LN2 The O-Ring hole is perfect for 2" copper or brass hand rail. Was super easy DICE pot mod. Ahh, here's the pic. I have the same one, acrylic cracked so I used nylon from a road hockey stick blade.. I also carefully drilled a hole between the fins in the base for a probe... unit works great

No Jon, I'm not. I'm pretty happy with the 2700X. You?

Nope not yet. I dont need it really. Want to disect one though.
2700x wait till 4000 series get a 3000 series cheap and cycle processor like that. Dang 2700x now get for 150 used. Crazy fast price drops.

I know, those price drops are just crazy. With what I do I will never get full use of this chip. Way over kill for what I do. It's a power house.

Well from what I see at the Bot, it looks like we aren't missing a lot while comparing 3700x to 2700x. You can see a slight performance gain, but doesn't seem or look like a whole lot.
(sry had to dip out and pick up my kid from work)

Looks very nice. Way nicer than those silly AIO setups. You probably have more copper just in that block than a AIO 120.3 has including the rad and cold plate combined lol. Should shave off a few degree. Can't wait to see it in the loop!

I have no doubt whatsoever that this block is gonna be a big improvement. No doubt.
Jon: the damned thing is heavy.

Are you going to lap the cpu and block surfaces?

|
Post by zila1 on Sept 26, 2019 20:50:34 GMT -5
I will check it for fit. If it gives me a really good contact patch I will leave it all at stock fit. Edit: I don't think I want to start scraping expensive copper off of my brand new block right off the bat.

Mirror finishes are the finishing touch to liquid cooling. "wink"
additional comment::
You would do the block at 2000 grit because it's brand spanking new. You'd only be taking off such a small amount... It cleans the stuff you can't see with the naked eyeball...
I lap cpu cores all the way to 3000 grit.

And they look so cool too. Edit: When I do lap, I do it til I can shave in the F'ng thing. I hit the like button like 900 times, but it just likes and unlikes it lol.. Got any old pictures to throw around?? I'd have to dig mine up from photobutthead.. I mean photobucket.

Yea here we go. Some core lappage.

I've only ever lapped a few CPU's and did so just cause I had issues cooling them. helped a degree or two. What was the best improvement you've ever had lapping a CPU and block?

Well that depended on the particular Cpu. Best case scenario was 5c but with higher wattage chips at OC exceeding 225w TDP.
Worst case scenario, de-lid like the above Athlon 5000 (FX-5000 unlocked) helped nothing as it suffered a bad TLB and dead walled at 3.750Ghz cpu-z-able.
Back some years ago, I tested low watt processors like the Sempron x2 2200 processor without even so much as a heat sink. I used only a fan upon the IHS plate elevated by my water block bolts. I can't recall exactly how fast I could get the chip, around 1.2ghz at best with 2 cores well under a volt. Might-a-been only one core. Can't remember exactly anymore.

The block is in. Only disappointment......which really isn't that big a deal is that led cables are too stiff for me to run them properly. I felt like I was gonna break them. Not good cable management with them so I left them out. I'll figure something out at a later date. Later on I will do some heat testing. This is one heavy block. It came with a mirror finish on it. You can see yourself shaving in it...…….I'm not kidding either. Not that I was shaving in it.

I'm pleased with this where it is. -0.100 cpu vcore/-0.100 SOC Voltage. No PBO. Edit: It's gaming time.

It's nice and cool now Jon. The way it should be. I settled on 3466 ram speed because I noticed that when I over clock the ram the temps also go up a little. 3466 is good. I will try and tighten timings a little more. Nice rig for sure. I would like to get another 2700X later on and upgrade the other rig from the R5 1600 to a 2700X on the asus prime X370 Pro setup. That would make a nice backup rig.

Wait it out Eddie. Let Ryzen 4000 get released, then pick up a 3700X for cheap. The 2700X would be the backup.

I ordered another 2700X on Newegg. $159.99 and I could not resist it. I don't need the new 3000 series. The 2700x is a beast and that's what I paid for a Ryzen 5 1600 not too long ago. I will put it into the Asus Prime X370 Pro. This will be more fun for me. we don't get the deals in Canada like you guys do in the US. So.... $25 mail in rebate isn't all that enticing. I didn't even go out or browse the web for anything
Vin
EDIT: just had an actual look.. 2700x is $205CAD... I've read the 3800x on my board (Asus C6H) clocks up like a MotherF** and the RAM opens up as well... but it's this in the $450 range... still too rich for me...
