It's negative fucking cold outside today (-27C, -40C with windchill) and despite the best of efforts, we're barely able to keep our living room at 20C - for some reason the heaters stopped kicking in several hours ago, so hopefully the building's heat didn't give out. On the flipside though, this means I've fired up my card again, and not just to prevent ShrimpBrine from surpassing me. Hey, right now, I'll take pretty much any heat source putting a bit more heat into the living room....

Got one setup in the benching room with the heating register closed the other in the garage which is about 3c, VGAs are loving the garage.
Nice to have you playing, hope the heating problem gets sorted out.

Nice to have you playing, hope the heating problem gets sorted out. I do too. Not exactly the most pleasant of floors in our place right now. Depending on where one looks, the walls are anywhere between 12C and 14C Floor is 19-21C, just don't get your feet too close to the wall, even though the heater is running (confirmed by that area being 39C or higher) that chill still soaks in.

I'm now running a 1080Ti (1.1 to 1.4Mil PPD), a 2080Super (Donated to me for a cause, 1.7-1.8Mil PPD) and a r9-290x (250-375K PPD) So rough math gets me near the 3Mil+ PPD... I had just added the 2080Super when we had the outage, So I'm looking forward to see what I actually get as an average. I'm trying to get my hands on a few RTX 2070's, the ones I missed out on for $500 are back on the market for $650 (found the buyer that is now the seller, funny how that went) So I've been trying to talk him down. hope it works out... and in a few months I'll be upgrading my main rig (2080Ti's or if I wait 3080's) and then I'll make the 1080Ti a permanent folding GPU with the 2080Super... and then I'll fold the new gear when my main rig is on... that will take a few months to make work out... I have a slew of other GPU's but their PPD just isn't worth it... I am also looking at a few 980Ti's for $250.. they'll be good for ~650K.. But then I'd need 2-3 of them and I don't think it's worth the hydro to run that many to make a real dent...
what do you guys think?

No worries at all about such. There's a number of things I sadly haven't been paying much attention to as of late... *Laughs nervously*

is there anything I can help with from 3 provinces away? 2 when I go to Winnipeg? Vin Thanks for the offer... It's mainly just been sorting out a number of things in my head, figuring out various plans (and how said plans will work, if they're feasible this year, etc), and also dealing with thoughts like "wow, that's going to be a lot of money to spend on a single Kickstarter". Most of it is good stuff, but some of it is harder things to work out, like finding balance between my various hobbies, work related stuff (kind of worried about tomorrow's routing software launch, for example, doubly so due to the meeting first thing in the morning with a bunch of higher ups in the building)... And aspirations for the future, several of which I've had to leave on the sidelines the past few years due to not really having the funds. Playfully, I think my biggest thought at the moment is trying to figure out how on earth I'm going to get lunch squeezed in there tomorrow since I couldn't pick up extra supplies this weekend (I'm not walking twenty minutes one way to the store in -28C actual / -42C windchills!), but I'll worry about that later. One thing I'm happy and also kind of worried about though is audio stuff. I have a general idea what production gear I want, but the bigger question is the djing stuff, and which way I'll be going with that (short version: I really want a Rane TWELVE and SEVENTY-TWO setup, but don't want to spent the $4,700 CAD on such, the other option is current gear but upgrade my mixer to the Allen & Heath Xone:96, the spiritual successor to the mixer I always wanted (the Xone:92)) ...And as for catching up to your Folding@Home credits, that would be tough, since by the looks of it you're outproducing what I can pull off But yeah, long run stuff will be fine but yeah, this year I'm very much so looking forward to getting some audio production gear, getting my djing setup back up and running, getting an airbrush, and also setting up a new, larger, and a LOT more organized painting desk. Current painting desk is a bloody mess, with nowhere near as much room as one would think the words "four feet wide" would imply... It's also going to get a LOT more paints too... >.>;;;; Still feels weird though, not only having a budget that's balanced, but also having things that were dreams actually moving closer to reality, AND having tentative time frames that are blatantly optimistic beyond belief. Err, aren't stupidly optimistic, but actually are slowly coming to fruition.

Ah, for DJ gear and production gear you and Alamakluke would get a long, He's a DJ that does a mix of a lot of things, and also has a small studio at home (16ch board, legit software, etc..) has a few PA's, lighting gear, the whole bit. some of the stuff you talked about are totally out of my wheel house but he might be able to chime in.
for F@H I still don't truly know what my daily PPD is, but my guess is 3Mil if I don't take the 1080Ti down to game. and I'm actively looking to replace the R9-290x with either my 1080Ti or another RTX product that can pull over a mil per day. I'm happy with my output right now, but I'd like to pull over 5-7Mil/day. I have $ coming (Inheritance) so I've even thought lavishly of getting a few 2080Ti's and there the 5mil/day there + 1.2Mil on the 2080Super and boom that's where I wanted to be, but an expensive way to spend 3 grand for gear + $2000/year in added hydro. So I don't quite know where it'll get at this time. Maybe wait out the 3080Ti.
My idea is to add 3-5k and build myself another 5+ year rig (Use some of the gear I have now to save some $)... I did it in 2009 with my X58/920/3x40GB SSD's when the 40GB unit's I got were $250ea and top tier GPU... that gear carried me to 2014 and a few used upgrades carried me to my ryzen/1080Ti I have today (Had it for over 2 years now)... so I just might go balls deep, full water cooling setup (CPU/GPU) and hard tubing. go all out. I'll be starting a thread in the coming months looking for suggestions on bits. I already have a case selected (well I think I do)...
I just know great things do take time, sometimes we have to get it slow to really appreciate it once we get there. I've forced myself to slow down on things... I find the few times I've said F'it and prematurely pulled the trigger in the past, I either couldn't properly enjoy what I had or did because I took away something else I was looking forward too but was a more attainable goal, now I'm worried about X or Y when they weren't worries before and now C and D are now even further away... it just gets up-side-down... Then you just get mad at yourself... you can't CTRL+Z things in life and that can suck.
If you'd ask me, start with the easily attainable things, bigger table (Used/Ikea), a modest airbrushing kit from that has upgrade-able parts so you can get a better gun later, air pump, softer/more flexible air lines, better tips, etc.
for lunch tomorrow, bring anything, cook a little pasta tonight, then cut up what-ever veggies you have and add a little of what-ever you have, add any kind of oil based salad dressing you have and container it, call that lunch... I'm the king of whipping shit together cause we always end up with B/C sides in the fridge and no f-ing mains... So I'm always making due with something... don't have any oil based salad dressing... olive oil, salt, pepper, touch of garlic, no olive oil sub with warmed up butter... crave protein? Add a can of tuna from a can.. don't have veggies in the fridge but have frozen veggies in the freezer, do the pasta but make it El-dente and cool with cold tap water, then add the dressing, frozen veggies on top (while frozen) then once at work, nuke it with a touch of water on the bottom (not enough to cover the bottom) 2 min on high you'll have something other people will want.
Don't compromise by not eating, an empty tummy is an empty mind. I do hope I got you on time for the lunch thing, sounds like an important day.

it's fair, soon I'll be taking down the 1080Ti from full time to weekends'ish, the other rig will be full time in the winter (Moving to the garage this weekend) and then in the summer will slow down due to heat and then ramp back up next fall...
I'm hoping to run the F@H Rig hard until at least the end of April (104 days) at an average of 1.5Mil PPD so that should net ~156Mil Points between now and then. Then the warmer weather I may turn F@H Rig off or maybe set it to Low on the Control Slider so it'll still be running but not as hard so to control the heat output, the Garage gets warm in the summer...
I had thought of using my cold cellar... but realized in a day or two it'll no longer be a "Cold" cellar... lol

With the djing gear, those Rane products are just more... How to put it. I love the look of it, I've always wanted a Rane, but at the same time, I am happy with my current gear, so odds are I probably won't drop that level of cash on things, but who knows. All I know is it would be an expensive upgrade, that's for sure. With airbrushing, the case of buy once cry once is very true. Buying a cheap airbrush will give you hours upon hours of frustration as their poor tolerances cause all sorts of issues, and most of them if they break, you toss them. The ones I'm looking at are only $200 CAD, which is affordable enough. Sure, I'd love that $400 Harder Steenback, but while they are gorgeous and very easy to keep clean, an Iwata Eclipse or even TRN1 is more than good enough. The desk upgrade for my painting area is a definite necessity though, since the current setup is just way too small for the two of us, and lacks room for additional paint. As for food that day, I just stopped in at my local deli and had a BLT. It was delicious, like they always are. ^_^ Wound up doing the deli thing because most of the lunches I tried packing through the day would partially freeze by the time lunch came around. Yeah, was that cold (this entire past week the warmest it's been was -23C with a -36C windchill, it's typically been -28C with a -39C to -41C windchill) Compromise by not eating? If lucky, I'd pass out at a customer, if not so lucky, vehicle would've plowed into something. I'm hypo-glycemic, I take my food eating seriously, because low sugar literally can kill me if one winds up passing out from lack of sugar in the wrong area (or while doing something like driving a 4-5000lb vehicle)

All good. glad you were able to get the food thing sorted, but sorry to hear about the condition. it's funny how our bodies punish us sometimes. and I was thinking that a $200 airbrush kit was a modest one... I know the cheap ones are no good. but also know kits can get in to the $1000+ range very easily.
I'm also guessing that the heat issue at your place has been sorted out?

the F@H Rig is all ready to go. I've installed 4x120mm Inlet fans and 2x120mm outlet fans. so the case pressure should be positive with cold air.
I'm going to be putting it in the garage either tonight or tomorrow. and I really wanted to have the case closed.
I've set the PC with a Static IP and I'm using a TightVNC Server on it. I've installed an HDMI dummy plug so I can have proper video while I remote in to it (This is a pure headless box, only power is plugged in to it). I was going to use Teamviewer, but for some reason my accounts been flagged as a commercial account. So I'm still trying to get that sorted out.
Here is a screenie of her going with some temps...
GPU1 = r9-290x (the reason this PC is still a Win10 box) GPU2 = donated RTX2080 Super

Vin Eh, hypoglycemia just means you pay closer attention to when you last ate, what you last ate, and what you've been doing since then. World doesn't end, just has some extra inconveniences if you forget some things (like get busy hanging out with friends) As for the heat... Not really, it's still stupidly cold outside (but not quite as stupidly cold), but heater is more or less managing. Been having to leave a fan on almost constantly though, to keep heat up where our feet are. Oh... That $200 I mentioned is just the airbrush. Then you'll want a hose, quick disconnect fittings (they're life savers for cleaning storing, and of course swapping airbrushes), and then a tanked compressor, all of which add a few hundred to that. You want a tanked compressor because air pressure is much more consistent, plus they don't turn on as often. But you can still get a good setup for $4-500 CAD if you know where to look, and time it right. If you're feeling fancy (or want to reduce the amount of fog in your place) you'll also want some sort of extraction setup, even if it's just a filtration unit. And if you're using enamels, you will really want a respirator..

Got the same problem lately with with food intake started drinking a Boost in the mornings helps a lot, old age sucks.
Droch Leanna is my next door neighbor and uses my wifi router for connection, long story. System is 3 RTX 2060's and a RTX 2080, soon to be upgraded to 4 RTX 2080 Super's, which actually are all going to be running by Sunday morning. Two in my daily with two going all ready, I've added my 1080 Ti's to the mix also, ladder rungs are pretty good reaches on this page so decided between us to hit it hard till the end of the month.
Actually has already been running in this configuration but when my wifi router hiccuped we went back to to DL only.

I might change that out with a Hyper 212 Evo... I have enough of those..

Yes, you're almost at my tail again! I'm downsizing. Starting with BOINC. Similar to Folding, but I can choose what projects I'm supporting. The numbers aren't as ridiculous (no Billion points on Boinc), but I think that's actually a good thing. That means people get credit for the work they do, not for how quick the work is done. (over 80% of the credits nowadays on FAH is QRB (Quick Return Bonus), not actual work done. Once my server is working at half speed, we might meet up PS: You should really do the beta thing, now that it's cold. Beta will run your GPUs hotter, and give you lots more points!
