Looks like we are going to overtake Microsoft in a few days... look at their team number compared to ours... they've been up here a while... Vin I have some days off x-mas week. Maybe I'll fire up the rig and join ya.

I sometimes wish I had more GPU Power. I like what my 1080Ti and r9-290x have been doing (1.3-1.5Mil PPD) helped us fly up the ranks as of late. I keep eye-balling RTX2080Ti's and their 2.4Mil PPD and would like to pair that up with the 1080Ti for a near 3.6Mil PPD... whoa, the ranking that would fly over... if you look at the overtake page3; folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=234770&p=3you finally see teams that are pushing more than 1.7Mil PPD... the average between us and them is under 1Mil PPD... But then I look at the points gap... to get to Page 3 at this current rate is 1 year away... whoa.... We should had started sooner... lol Vin

Had very very little interest and our team was much smaller.

I'm going to get going here pretty soon, need some heat in the house. I've looked at the RTX series cards been spending to much on old sh#t lately and 2080 Ti's way out of my price range last time I looked.

I'm getting an inheritance and was thinking of re-jigging my PC... new case, more rads, water block the GPU's and maybe get new ones in the process...
right now I'm just wondering if the RTX3xxx will be out when I go down that path

What do you have for folding? I might upgrade next year sometime. Over the years I've had a few... Started with a GTX 770, then moved up to the 780, then the 980, then the 980 Ti. Current GPU in my gaming rig is the RTX 2080, which does a nice job, but man it's got some noisy coil whine, surprisingly only when running Folding@Home...

A gtx 2080. Way out of my budget range lol.
Would a 1070 be at least some improvement over the GTX 980???

Using the Google Sheet from over here ( www.overclock.net/forum/55-overclock-net-folding-home-team/475163-gpu-projects-ppd-database.html ) it looks like going from the GTX 980 to the GTX 1070 would bring an average PPD from 443.5k up to 698.6k, aka an increase of 253.1k PPD. They also use less power, don't they?

I ordered what I needed to get going this morning but the tracking is showing 10 days (UPS), usually from the Newegg So. Cal warehouse it's here in 3 days (FedEx) so must be coming from somewhere farther East.

I don't crunch all the time partially for that reason, also is my gaming rig/card, so don't want to abuse it if possible. Thanks for that database link. Looking at it right now.

Check amazon.com They occasionally have a refurbished 2080Ti on sale. Especially from Gigabyte, my favorite, You can find them in the $800-900 range (1200 new).
I'm currently running 4 Gigabyte 2080 Tis, and one EVGA.
Stay away from Asus! They won't honor factory warranty, and have horrible customer service!
Zotac is lower end stuff. EVGA breaks down a lot, but their cs is great.
So far I yet have to have 1 GPU from zotac or gigabyte break. They seem to last forever, through abuse and everything. Gigabyte cooling is phenomenal, and they run very quiet!
Word of advise, with the new drivers, Set GPU fan speed to max. The few degrees you lower the GPU, might end you in a higher tier overclock.
If ambient is below 60, the 2080Tis run best at 160-165W. The GPU temps should be below 50c, sometimes below 45c.
Aim for GPU temps below 50c! (Should be possible with an open case, at 75F (or below) ambient temps.
The 2080s run best at 136-139W. The 2070 supers at 150W. Strangely enough, they also perform worse than a 2080, yet consume more.
RTX 2060, 2060Super, 2070, all run best at 125-127W
Once ambient temps dip below 50F, you can reduce power consumption even more on those GPUs, to prevent it from surpassing it's max GPU boost frequency.
The cool will help stay within a specific power consumption threshold, and in some cases you possibly could add another GPU. Don't CPU fold, GPU fold only, if the electric bill matters. It's better to replace the CPU folding with a budget GPU, but even better with a mid or high end GPU.

I took down my 1080Ti as I am not home for a few days, I left the folding rig with the 20x running. I totally missed out on a few cheap 2070 Supers and I am so kicking my own ass... $500 ea... retail is near $700+13% tax... I can't find any used for under $650... just brutal..
1080Ti will be back up on Wed Evening I think, if not Thursday.

Pretty soon I'll be selling some RTX GPUs. Mainly 2060 and 2070s. I still have to gather the boxes, etc... I got some interesting news for you guys. In case you're interested in some Beta batches, you can increase your PPD by 10-50% by just subscribing for Beta WUs. The good: you'll get more points. The bad: WUs might fail quicker, might even break hardware. You'll also have to lower any overclock by small margins, and increase power consumption on the GPUs, in case you capped or limited the power somehow (via nvidia-smi, EVGA EOX, or MSI Afterburner or other). If you don't use any power reducing software, you don't need to worry about this. But as far as the beta is going, core 22 is running at the end stages of the Beta phase. You can get the benefits of faster Wus, without running any major risks of destroying your hardware. It's been running semi-public now for a few weeks, and in beta for a few months with several setups. Even moderately fast AMD GPUs can now fold as well! All you have to do, is click configure, go to expert window, and click the add (plus) button. In there, type in the window: client-type Beta Click ok, ok, save, and just wait for FAH to finish a WU and load a new one. The new numbers should be higher than the old numbers. When Core 22 becomes public, you can remove this setting, as you would not want to expose your new hardware to core 23. Considering that core 22 took several years to make, I think the beta flag should last for about 1 to 6 more months.

Sure, some beta units will give you much higher PPD, and it can be worth the risk, but youll want to keep a few things in mind...
- if you aren't part of the beta team, you will receive absolutely no support if something breaks - you can, and will sometimes receive work units that have absolutely no points, or no quick return bonus (QRB) to said points. - since they are beta units, you'll have a bunch fail on occasion, for no reason, and this is part of the testing process. This can reduce your completion ratio below the 80% necessary to maintain QRB. - Folding@Home staff actually get cranky at people signing up for beta, without being part of the beta team
I personally prefer client-type "advanced". You don't have to be part of the in circle/group,and QRBs are always enabled. This is the "I'm willing to help out" part, things are mostly stable, and any issues in base credit have already been fixed. That and if you do run into an issue, they'll actually talk to you on their forums.
Lovely guide for setting it all up if you're willing to take the risks associated with it! ^_^

So far the only issues I've ran into is an occasional Wu with extremely hot temperatures. A few WUs break. But overall I've increased points from 11M to 17M PPD. Should be 20M if all Wu's went through fine. Despite that, it works fine. I got chewed on, by raffiesomething, the engineer of the core22, for using the advanced setting, and not the beta, which is why I used beta instead. Funny thing is, I've never used th advanced flag at all! They probably weren't aware, that they made core 22 public for a few weeks. Their own fault for snapping at me. That, an they should be friendlier to people folding. Instead all they do is just horrible customer service, to the people that are helping THEM! So, no matter what you do, you'll get chewed on. Might as well be every man for himself!
Raffioweira or something, said it was my fault, if the advanced client Wu's will be finished, and I shouldn't blame him if they run out. He himself said I had to use core 22, but they themselves don't just let anyone in the beta team.
Since right now core 22 is in beta, you'll mostly get good and fast WUs. Once core 22 goes to advanced permanently, and more risky core 23 WUs get sent, I'll probably switch back.

Seems a server is either not pulling or reporting points.. I've even checked the F@H points server and it doesn't look like the points updated all day.

Vin I figured it would of been fixed yesterday during work hours, being it's the weekend might not see any change till Monday, grad students like their weekends. Actually it's kinda odd not a lot of chatter about the matter. I'm still running got the impression there will be a big catch up once fixed, guess will see. Did take an average of the hourly while there was still some information see how close it works out. Added: Just did a reload on the Folding @ Home server showed a change, sooooooo maybe a change on the 9 AM update. Added: So much for the last statement!

Usually when points go down, you'll see them creep in within a day. Worst outage was three days I think, but all credit was still given.
Just sucks to do a bunch of work and not have it show on the next update, I definitely agree with that.
