They would have to recall just about all the chips they've made so far cause they are all too hot for the stock cooler.

Haha, nah they are designed to just down clock based on temperature. Just buy the hardware, slap the stock cooler on it and it'll be fine for web browsing and gaming or what ever. Turn it on and go. Light loads Boost to 4350Mhz and produces fine performance. OC the memory and adjust timings and gain more performance.
You know I tested running only four cores right? Oh man the chip runs so cool.
Can you experiment for me? Can you leave your boost AI stuff as it is but turn off SMT and shut down 4 cores and see if it clocks better by itself? I'm really curious if this really works or not. lol. please.

no i didnt think you were a smart arse at all shrimp, if i thought that mate id tell ya no worries
@ pete and im not tryin to have a flame war at all, its just imo ive seen intel belt amd consistently over many thing for a long time
i dont have a ryzen so i really dont know how theyre supposed to behave, , it seems too hot to me tho, but if it was me id either delid it and retim it or RMA it complaining of excessive heat but you wont be able to RMA after its delidded, so theres 3 choices, delid it and see if theres a difference in the heat and keep it or RMA it and see what the next one does for him, or put up with it the way it is

No worries Shane.
I would say Jon has got a very good chip low leakage and runs cool would probably be an excellent cold chip and Eddie's is an average one its the silicon lottery. If it runs Ok on standard settings they wont RMA it because you think its too hot.
Any 8 core 16 thread CPU is going to output a lot of heat
Intel doesnt even give you a cooler with 8700k, 9900k you are expected to put a high performance cooler on from the get go also AMD didnt give you a cooler with the 1800X it was a surprise that they give one with the 2700X

RMA the chip??...............Naaaaaa, that ain't happening. You'll have to take it out of my dead cold hands.
Yup, if Jons Chip was on my hardware it would be screaming. I'm running a Glacer 240L in push/pull in the roof with Swiftech Helix fans with a second rad in the front(RX240 V3) with two Cooler Master Blade Master Fans in pull. It stabilizes at about 75*C after about two hours or so. This is my old FX9590 cooling solution.
I know someone who is running three bad ass rads and is seeing similar temps to mine so there are diminishing returns. My neighbor next door to me is running a 2700X with a Corsair H115i and is seeing temps in the 80s under full load. I have to go over there later and tune that puppy for him and get those temps down. These are the average experience looks like. But we all love our chips. I am also in communication with someone who is running i9 9900K and he says it's like a runaway train with the heat that he is fighting on his so it's not just an AMD thing.
Edit: Wanna hear something funny???...................I thought I was gonna get this bitch down to 50*C under load with my cooling solution ROFLMAO...........Man did I ever make a bad call on that one.

What I'm most concerned about is that it's winter here now. When ambients rise in the summer...........well that is what is on my mind right now.
Try running the chip steady at 3.7Ghz and 1.212v. That would be max P-state for the chip. Just turn off all the boost stuff. Let me know how your temperatures are?

Performance Mode set in Windows
CPB Disabled PBO Disabled Left Global C States on but I could have just disabled that too.

Ah very nice. I actually was just thinking of you and ran IBT at nearly the exact same settings. I left V-core on auto and LLC on auto and it benched and stressed mostly at 1.88v
During the bench I reached 47c and the heat spikes from IBT reached 56c which is not hot enough to spin the fan up on the stock cooler.
Cinebench Score is 1673 (still have that on the screen) not bad I think.

That memory speed gives you a nice little boost. I really think it will suffice during the summer Eddie. It'll stay nice and cool.

Get a little better of a Cinebench score now. Took a little tweaking here and there, but starting to get better. My goal is to see that 2000cb mark everyone else seems to have no issues getting with PBO enabled, while one of my draw backs is memory frequency.... But I have been trying!!! check it out Eddie. Whatcha think? Static OC with performance mode Off.

That is shweet Jon. Like it alot. These chips are a lot of fun to play with.
Edit: If only you could get that memory speed up. I think then you would hit your target of 2000. My board does 3200 but that's it. Stilt's Fast Preset 1.4 volts. SOC left to auto. BAM! 3200 Tight. Bios 4024. I was on bios 4207 but that one omitted PBO. Not good for auto clocking the chip as it let the chip drop too low under stress.
EditII: Jon, I'm saving my nickels and dimes. I want an ROG Crosshair VII Hero. Once you've gone high end on motherboards...........nothing else will do. My X370 Prime Pro is a VERY good motherboard though. I won't see the new board until mid summer. It's very expensive.

Right on Eddie, I encourage you to spend your moneys!!! My birthday just passed on the 16th ya know.... you could get me one next year, so save some quarters and singles and we'll both be set!!!! It took me a year to save 500 plus dollars for what I already have. So that's one reason why I didn't de-lid the chip right away. Once Asus hooks me up with a bios update that focus's on memory, I'll be just fine with my B450M-A motherboard. I don't see spending money on a new board as logical. I would like to just purchase a 3000 series Ryzen and slap it in my current motherboard and go that route instead of getting a high end board. Probably going to see 5 series chipsets for the new Ryzen chips also. Stilt is smart, I can see he mods work very well for people. However I doubt he has anything for my B450 because everything they had posted looked like B and X 350/70 series boards. So in a way your lucky to have the board your running now to get that experience in. I like THE STILT though. I've watched him for many years with the rest of the OC world. I think I'd bout crap my pants if he registered here to occasionally hang out. Him and countless others. ANYHOW.... I didn't post my fastest achievement from the other evening there. I'm hoping ZILA1 has some back up screen shots to share!

My thinking is that I would get the Crosshair VII Hero and put the 2700X in it and then put the Ryzen5 1600 back in the Prime X370 Pro and make that my backup rig. I'd be set real good. Only I will also have to buy another kit of ram as this is the only DDR4 I currently own.
Stilts is pretty cool. There is another fella out there too making memory calculator and a timing checker. Pretty neat stuff.
You have a nice setup Jon and a good chip so you look to be in real good shape. Really gonna de-lid??

Yes that's right! I had forgotten about that chip! A 1600 would make a very nice backup rig. I agree, that's a good idea.
Well Eddie, I always contemplate a good de-lid. I don't think it would hurt the temps by making them worse.... Der8auer got some 4c better temps I think it was. I'd say that's a good number overall. Take something running 63c at load stock down to 59c load at stock looks might fine accomplishment.
Is high risk de-lidding worth it? If you gain 100Mhz on a Ryzen chip, I'd say yes.
Should I de-lid the chip blindly? No I studied very much the video, and it looks like I'll have no troubles with a successful first time de-lid. He killed 2x processors, but I noticed the nice thin shaving razor blades. I thought of that like a decade ago and glad to see it used by other people.
Would make a video like that, but I only have a Classic Platforms T-Shirt and an old musty garage or basement to take a video at. I've thought about it many times to make like a really decent video, but meh... 8auer has a much larger fan base, he's better off doing it than I am. lol. Maybe we'll see.
Would very much like to de-lid Ryzen. Just not sure if I want to do it just yet. WHen I'm done beating it down with high voltage and what not, then Yea I suppose it will be time. Got a couple PRs to hit with it yet. I'm getting close for sure with how the rig stands and static overclocking.

Here's one that's a bit faster. Stock air cooler, static OC 2666 memory clocks. Am now running Q fan mode disabled so 100% fan speed. Turned on windows performance mode. This is the difference between the last one, this one is 4 whole points faster lol.

Nice runs Jon your doing well. One thing though the screenshots are illegal for HWBot. The X1800XT you have to be able to see the settings in the main window I wouldnt worry about that one though no one will probably ever report it. hwbot.org/news/877_application_5_rules/For cinebench you have to show the full render because of cheats modifying the render before to boost their scores. hwbot.org/news/9946_application_94_rules/

For real? Theyve found ways to cheat cinebench now too?
My screen shot should be fine. The damn score is low for the clock speed as it is.
Almost cant even bench anything any more. Cheats for everything so dissapointing.
Please remove all my cinebench runs. Thats really gonna hurt my team and my own points. stupid ...

I've deleted my recent submission for 2700X Cinenebench R15.
I will try to submit according to the rules laid out for each benchmark. Can duplicate for the X1800 XT, at this time I'll leave the submission but later shall re-submit the benchmark.

I don't think it's a lot to do, but more of a nuisance to try and remember it. lol.
It's the cheaters that take the fun out of benching cause they always gotta win fair or not.
Me? Just like to ram Mhz and try to beat tweakers. sometimes I win sometimes I loose.
