The temps bones and I are seeing seem to be normal and quite average for these chips. Which is why folks are complaining about the stock cooler not handling the heat at stock. Big tower coolers and big AIOs and custom cooling are the usual recommendations. Massive coolers. I was surprised and very disappointed the first time I started up this processor on the test bench and saw how high the temps were with the stock cooler and nothing I did with that cooler helped. I would be using an NH-D15 if the damned thing didn't make me think of baby crap every time I look at one. Ugly!

You are talking about these? Ryzen 3000s. A few price estimates in this article.

3600X will be lovely, 3800x's will be killer for Intel I guess. They won't have any answer for them... Their architecture is pushed to it's limits even now with 9900k. Interesting times coming I guess.

Today I left the rig burning on Aida64 which will really put the heat on. I went out to do my yard work and after a while came back to this. Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BK with fans at 100% and all the case fans on at 100%. Ambient temps 22*C. Now to see if this chip will run on lower voltage. I'm on a -0.1 offset right now. This cooler is as good as most if not all AIOs..........so I think to get the kind of temps I'm looking for I would have to go custom loop.............but I don't want to. Besides these temps are not the norm. Only in AVX stress tests does the heat really come on.
What do you think Rods?? How's yours doing??

Try only fpu stress. Or a prime large. You should see some 150-170w or more I think. Anyway the temp are really looks very good, don't think You can go mentionable lower with a water cooled setup even !

Your right about that alpi.

Not gonna stress it - Don't forget where I am in relation to you. Temps are already hitting 80's so unless I get a decent cool shot of air before it's gone until October I'm not gonna lean on it.
However I can before long get a reading from HWmonitor and see what it says - Not right now but soon.

They are super sensitive to temps. Nearly all stable setup is crashing near (or above) 80 degrees. More voltage leading nowhere. The only good thing is the game is playable in the other way too. 10-15-20 degree lower and You have another multi !

Working on tuning in my B-Die. Stilt's ram pre-set in Crosshair VII Hero bios.

I do believe I'm done tuning. This is as far as I'm willing to push. DDR4 3666 set in bios. 1.40 Dram, 1.40 Dram Boot Voltage. Feels pretty slick.

So that cpu clock at 4.2Ghz, is that boost or static (manually set)?

|
Post by zila1 on Apr 11, 2019 15:57:14 GMT -5
That's the auto boost doing it's own thing Jon. PE2 and PBO enabled.

PBO.... so you don't use XFR or is PBO a product of XFR?
I have a listing called Core performance boost that is separate from XFR. With my board, if either is enabled, the Cpu will boost. I need to disable both. Do you have CPB or core performance boost? (I'm pretty sure that's what it's listed as on my board.) I think it's PBO just named something different..

On this Crosshair VII it's a custom setting that sets the PBO limits. Performance Enhancer 2=
PPT Limit = 1000W TDC Limit = 1000A EDC Limit = 1000A Customized Precision Overdrive (Scalar) = 10X This board has it all.
Edit: it is a combination of XFR and PBO. It takes all resources, takes into account cooling solution.............and Whala!
This is a tweakers board thru and thru. I can't begin to tell you how much fun I'm having with it. It keeps me busy that's for sure. Love it.

Oh that's a good read. In bios 1101 they changed the name to XFR which IS PBO.
But in the graph, it looks like there is claim they are separate configurations??
I watched a video made by AMD and was getting confused because of all the different wordings that seem to differ. I do have a lower end board, but also have XFR feature and CPB as well. Any how, I came to understand that PBO is where the quick boosts come from through AMD's SenseMI technology. XFR would be where all the threads would stay at a higher boosted state. And then there's smart prefetch where data prepared for processing, and also something else called Neural Net prediction, using AI to send work through the bast pathways.
So XFR and PBO are 2 parts of SenseMI features. Since you are using a gen 2 processors, your using XFR2 more than less. Pretty cool.
Nice results with the memory frequency by the way. Very impressive!

It's kinda hard for me to explain it all. There is so much in the bios and different ways to get results. You're not confined at all. But you do have to be careful. I can see where a total noob could screw things up in there real easy. An experienced clocker would have a time in there.

For sure, damn good reads from both of you. Thank you very much for that. This will be a good thread for referencing Crosshair VII and the details within!! I haven't the option for XFR/PBO/CPB right now. The Athlons don't have it.

Just ordered a set of G.Skill FlareX(Model F4-3200C14D-16GFX). Now I can bring the Ryzen 5 1600 Rig back online. I think I'm gonna take a little dabble at making a Linux Gaming Box.

Good to hear. The one I have wasn't doing too well so bought a Scythe cooler and it's doing so much better with it. I do not like the direct contact style coolers anyway and the Wraith is one but the Scythe model I got isn't. www.newegg.com/p/13C-0004-00083

The cooler is great with the Ryzen 5 1600 but is totally over whelmed by the 2700X. I'm just glad it works as nice as it does now. My 2700X needs custom water.
Edit: That's a nice looking cooler Rods.

Mine is a good cooler, works well enough I was able to do a run with this at the speeds shown a few weeks ago. This bench will never be approved by the bot for good reason, it varies as it goes between runs so the results aren't consistent.
