I've been thinking for the last few days. Things get done with a goal right?
I want to set a goal....
If you are folding, this is the site you go to to see how your team is doing...
Look on the left pane and you can see/select some good detail....
We need to get in the 6000th position or better, then we need to hold it.... with that, we need your help.
and it can happen quick... when Shrimpy started the team and started Folding, he himself quickly put us in 54447 of 228308... Shit, that's inspiring....
Today, he and I put some bits together and in 4 days we are 23297 of 228311
So help us, help others....
My Main rig pulls 120,000 points per day.... this weekend I'll add my GTX580 to this rig to better it... and also this weekend I'll fire-up the bench and put in the AMD GPU's I have in it.... I want this team to have 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 points before Dec 25th... We can do it if we have your help...
Lets see what we can do.

Good Luck. He was asking for additional contributions. We don't need luck.... lol. Vin, It took me 10 years to accomplish 5 million points. Granted that wasn't steady folding through all that time.... but still. 4 million by X-mas? I should bring you to awareness that some people do not believe in folding. However when they want to second guess my long term stability, I can use F@H as a very good example. Any how, the theory is that you really don't know what your Rig is processing and supposedly F@H could steal your identity.... however after years more than a decade, I've yet to see any evidence of anything negative come from F@H or Rosetta @ Home ect..... People fear the unknown lol.

I should bring you to awareness that some people do not believe in folding. I would be part of that contingent. Because of my tinfoil hat.

tucker147 22,930 1-WUNice Job Tucker147 Impressive points on only one work unit! Haha that's me, my old username from when I folded for Team Evga. I'm pitching in a few WU's just for the heck of it. Only running one 780 Ti to keep the power usage down and with some fast WU's it'll do about 300K PPD.

Yea GPU folding is where it's at. Get a few fellas with that kind of PPD, we'd hit Vinster's goal easily

I would and even tried it at one time. BUT....... the wife after seeing the powerbill from one month's worth of it made it clear what I woudn't be doing from that point onwards. Go get 'em guys.

When I run the browser app and set to light folding, it uses 20% over 16 threads and brings points per day down to 8600 estimated. The power bill is up this time of year, gotta have the X-mas lights everywhere. I slip in some work units and nobody know a thing. WHen I run the browser app, I can run a single work unit in 5 minutes. I think it's good for 250 ppd or something of that nature. You could experiment even to go as far as wondering how much energy is being used vs gaming. I also believe that you can set up to run as many threads as you want if you use the downloadable version. A low power way to fold is run a single thread. After all, it's only a goal set for the 25th of Dec. No life time commitment needed

Good Luck. .... but still. 4 million by X-mas? Yep, it's doable... just my 1 rig pulls 120k/day. tonight I'll add my GTX580 to it and get 20-40k more. and get my bench rig going (a x58 variant) with my r9-290x (should be good for 30-60k). I hope with all that as a combination I'll pull over 200k/day... so in 10 days that 2 million. I'm putting up half my request.
the years for the points, well... the gear we used back then was not meant for this.. for a good GPU would pull 2-5k... now they pull 120k...
and 4 mil, to make sure we stay up enough to keep using that site.
another note, if we get in the top 1000, we get individual user stats on the team page... that's the next goal... but I'll give us more than 10 days.. lol

I wouldn't bother with the GTX 580 Vin, it's not worth using anything older than Kepler now for folding, they just use way too much power for what you get. The 290X on the other hand will do pretty nice, 200-250K PPD at full tilt.

thanks for the info, I was going to pop in to see what I can get out of it.
didn't think the r9-290x would pull that hard... it's a Tri-X unit in open air, so I'll be able to pull it at 100%

My GTX 580 has an estimated PPD of 15,276 pts. I ran at least one or two work units to give me a small boost in points, but yea, it sucks up 220W all day lol.
@vin, nice jump in points there, looks like you're cranking out some good points! Keep up the good work!

I think I'll swap out my second 780 Ti temporally for my Evga GTX 1050 FTW so I can set two gpu's folding without using a ton of power. An extra 150K+ PPD @ <100W.

From what I can recall doing it with the CPU isn't worth it, definitely a GPU kind of thing to score the points.

I don't have anything bigger than a GTX 770. I'm not a very wealthy man by any means. I'm lucky to even have a 2700X on a cheap motherboard. Otherwise my next fastest thing is a Phenom or Athlon. lol.....

From what I can recall doing it with the CPU isn't worth it, definitely a GPU kind of thing to score the points. All the points I've made for this team was mostly on the 2700X. So you are correct. However the CPU doesn't use as much energy folding.... at least compared to my GTX 580....which is what I'm using for gaming currently. I ran maybe 2 WU on it, probably about 25,000 points worth roughly.

ah, if a GTX580 only does 15-16k, then you're right, I won't bother... building a rig for someone, delivery is after xmas. (i3-8100 system..) I'll pop in my r9-290x in it to test the system until then... see what that will do

It's good! I like it.
I also fired up the Ryzen 1400 quad core. Have that running some WU. not much for PPD, but it's having fun!

Otherwise my next fastest thing is a Phenom or Athlon. lol..... A GTX 770 should be capable of doing 80-100k PPD (105k PPD averaged out, according to the GPU PPD database over at OCN .... Yes, looking into the larger file there are a decent amount of 770, 780, 980, and 980 Ti subs with my name on it - I used to be a regular contributor to such... >.>;;;;; One thing you'll want to do that I couldn't see mentioned is to acquire a Passkey, which is simple enough once you've sent at least one work unit with a username attached to it: Get a Folding@Home Passkey . You'll need an email address you can access for this. A passkey is then emailed to you. What this does is enable Quick Return Bonus point, aka QRB. Put this passkey into the Folding@Home Client (right click the task bar icon and choose "Advanced Control", then click the Configure button on the top left. Copy/paste your passkey into the two fields, make sure they match, then click save. After this, once you've successfully submitted ten work units, you will qualify for quick return bonus points, which will give you a LOT more points for each work unit. You'll also need to maintain a 70% completion ratio afterwards, if you wish to qualify for bonus points. This has no expiration, provided you keep yourself above 70% completion/turn in, which most people will never run into an issue with. Additionally, if you're willing to deal with the slight headaches involved, Linux will give a 25-30% PPD increase. Oh, right. If you're using Maxwell or newer hardware, you're going to want to either disable Performance Level 2, or raise the memory clocks manually up to Performance Level 3's specs, because if you don't, your memory will run at PL2 specs and that's usually at least a 500MHz penalty to their frequencies, and therefore, a decent hit to your PPD. EDIT: Wow, how the mighty have fallen... You can tell HardOCP took a MASSIVE hit after bigadv was killed off... They were first for soooo many years. Hell, even OCN's dropped a few ranks... EDIT2: Is this the team you're trying to get bumped up? stats.foldingathome.org/team/234770EDIT3: *cracks knuckles* Try to keep up boys - my first work unit is estimated at 81k credit, and 604k PPD ~_^

Sweet. I wasn't kidding when I said 605k PPD either ^_^ Ignore the Team ranking at the bottom of HFM.NET (and hell, most of the general info down there) as that's for my ranking with OCN, as I can't change that over just yet due to lack of EOC stats compatability, and of course, not having submitted a work unit under Warp9 yet... Oh, and for those wondering... This is a stock clocked MSI GTX 980 Ti Golden Edition. I could crank out even more PPD if I overclocked the card, but I'm happy running it at 1341/3505 for the time being, since it's at a comfy 69C... ^_^ EDIT: Notice that Estimated credit is almost 8x higher than base credit (well, 7.43x higher). That is the power of a PassKey, and the QRB you unlock by using one.

It feels that way, but it's more a way to reward people for returning results quickly, because they can't continue the chain until the work unit you have is submitted and analyzed. QRB was something that was introduced to coax people into returning results faster, and it did a good job on that front, that's for sure.

Thanks for the tip... so... 4 mil in 2 days is what we'll end up doing... so... top 1000 my xmas? Vin Quite possibly. If I remember correctly, detailed stats unlock once you hit team rank 1200 or 2000... Can't remember. I won't always have Folding@Home up, but I'll chip in where I can. Mon-Wed next week I'll be crunching work units for OCN, due to the Foldathon (even if I have doubts about payouts... Still bitter about that $50 payout I won during the Pentathlon 2017 and still, to this day, have not received), but after that I suspect it'll be predominately for Warp9 ^_^
