Drying out the Sabo from a previous sub-zero session so I can take a crack at it myself - On water, not DICE.

I used your sub for reference. Didn't want to run it over if I didn't have to. If I have to run for this comp again it will be on the 960T.

Nobody is happy with what they have. We always want more. I dunno, there's that one strange guy with a black and orange fox as their avatar that keeps saying they're happy with being limited to dry ice as the coolest stuff they can run. But I suspect they're crazy, as they claim they're happy with their current gear, and the only thing on their list of desires is a better coffee mug, and a few more of those wonderfully hard CPU trays because the five or so on hand are starting to get a tad too full...

This gigashyte 890FXA-UD7 boots into safe mode if I set the memory timings to manual so I'm stuck with what ever automatic timings are applied for each memory ratio AND it hasn't run much past 274MHz on the bus speed which limits me to CL9 at 3:10 and CL11 at 1:4. I think 3:8 is CL7. A bit of a pain, but less of a pain than getting my DK 790FXB-M2RSH and PII X4 940 out of the my server... Plus with the 890FXA-UD7 being Extended ATX it is too long for the server case (Silverstone LC13-E) anyway.

Vin I am not scared of voltage. You shouldnt need that much though that would be the limit also I thought you were running cold water. One thing 4.5Ghz out of a Q9650 isnt a given. Set the ram as I have said and lower the CPU multi to 8 or 8.5 and see what sort of bus clock you can get hopefully you should be able to get to 500+ like that. Then if it does 500 bring the multi back up to 9 and see how you go you want to work out the CPU's max bus speed first by lowering the multi and having the ram at 1:1 you raise the multi back up and if it stops before you get where you were at the lower multi you are at the CPU's max speed. One thing about Core 2 Quads is they are 2 Core 2 Duos under the heatspreader on the one substrate they are not a true Quad core they communicate with each other over the bus some of them dont like high bus speeds. My QX9650 wont do 500 bus but its a unlocked multi so I can run it at 10x or higher Noxinite's looks the same he is running a 10x multi. My Q9550 will run 500 bus all day @ 1.3625v but it doesnt matter what I do it wont go over about 512 bus.

Here is the best I can do with this chip. thanks for the help guys.
if I don't leave the C-States on to let it clock down I can't boot in to windows past 480mhz. This board is funny, once I get to a bad clock, get in to a boot-loop. clr-cmos and load a profile isn't a given. I have a default profile setup and then I need to change 1 setting at a time for certain settings otherwise I get more boot-loops.. also oddities like, I can't turn off Virtualization... if I do, instant boot-loop... weird stuff...
learning this board has been a challenge, done things I've never had experienced before... hope to get a better board in the future.. need to save my pennies..
Vinster / Q9650 @ 4500Mhz / Patriot DDR2-1150 / EP45-UD3L / 295.093 Sec
I can get it to boot in to windows at 510x9 with 1.6v core and 1.58v NB but it's not bench stable. it would take a load more volts to get there..

Ah you got 500 bus 1.55v I see. Flash the latest bios on the board from the Gig website might take some of your odd troubles away.

One of my E5420's is very much like that, won't even do 350 FSB where as my other one does 480 FSB on my turd of a P5Q-E. They're even of the same batch. Oddly though, they both run happily all day long @ 400 FSB together in my D5400XS.

Dropped an Intel Quad in this morning set vCore 1.575 in BIOS with 9x500 popped right up ran a a test run no problem, ran it up to 510 FSB in OS got to around 75% done in wPrime and froze. Kicked voltage up to 1.62 in BIOS posted and shut off. Went to lower fluid set temp and noticed liq temp was at 45c. I'm out of the game unless I can arrange some kind of exchange with Koolance, its just to hot for my other cooling methods.

+/- 1c of what I set which was 10c at the time. Unit has a 360 rad built in so may have been not working for awhile as the RAM testing wasn't putting a lot of strain on the system.
