I do not like AIO's, I've already had one before and gave it away. Yes, it's pricey for an air cooler but (To me) it's better than an AIO - If I'm going for watercooling it would be custom all the way or nothing. I understand guys but that's what I'm going with, esp since I've already paid for it. Fuck, that's exactly why I sent Eddie that pump and radiators. He spent a little money on a good water block and cut many degree of his temps. Rather build a loop from heater cores and a good pump from the hardware store honestly. And thank you Jon. I'm enjoying the heck out of it. 3900XT is running nice and cool at stock boosting easily 4700MHz as it should. Swiftech 360 rad, 3 Swiftech 120mm Helix fans and the Swiftech MCP655 pump and the XSPC Raystorm Pro Water Block. Very nice. It's Shweet.

That XT rocks though. You have a very nice rig.

Can I just throw 7 on a usb stick and install like normal to b550 and a drive? Or will I lose things like USB? If so is slipstreaming still a thing? Sorry its been a few years..

Benchmate does not even install on Win 7. Since it is obligatory for comp I am afraid win 10 is a must. BTW, ran the exact same setup under Win 7 and I am ashamed to let you know the results. IT IS SO MUCH FASTER, lol. That is not accurate... all my 5800x subs for CPU benches that were supported by BM were done in Windows 7. and the rules of the comp only say to use BM on Win 8 and Win10, BM isn't required on Win7
here are a few examples of BM and Win7
I just unfortunately can't explain the oddity I experienced.

I dont know Vin. Latest BM version 10.7 installs only as admin and when I click to start the wrapper, it shuts down. So I uninstalled it. As you said not needed for win 7. Just tried out of curiosity. No go here. Nothing important though.

Yep
So in Win7 you're fine without it. i used it to not cause any confusion. but it behaved odd for me this time.
as for install, I think I needed .Net 4.5 for it to work but don't recall 100% right now

Or use the USB 2.0 ports by the FP header. USB Legacy mode in bios enabled. There's a few different ways to do it.

Johny, Yes, correct, but there is more to installing Win 7 on boards running 5000 series cpu's. I had no issue installing WIN 7 when I ran 3000 series cpu's. I just used a Win7 with slipstreamed usb drivers and Usb 2 ports, or if not available, a pci card with usb ports. Thing is with 5000 series that motherboard must be supported by the manufacturer with a bios using Agesa v. 1.20 or 1.21 and tailored to run Win 7 installations. Reason : Since AMD does not officially support Win7 for 5000 seires, it is up to the manufacturers to either adjust a bios or not. Some do, some dont. The technical issue is ACPI. If the bios is not suitable, an error that " this bios is not fully ACPI compliant " will appear and immediately stop any installation. Both on Asus X470 and Asus X570 dark, I had the same issue. Only when Asus released 4204 bios, it went thru with no issues. THERE ARE WORK AROUNDS. But not guaranteed.

THERE ARE WORK AROUNDS. But not guaranteed. I can echo this, if your MB doesn't have a PS2 port on the back... be ready for some work and added HW... It took me 3 full days and 1 sleepless night to get the OS to install... I still don't have USB3 working on my 5800x and Asus C8H.. like, I can get them installed.. I can get one of 3 hubs working at the back of the MB, but after a reboot it's gone again. the drivers just wont retain. I had to use the Gigabyte NVMe fix on my Win7 install USB drive to even start the Win7 install...
I have a PCIe USB 2.0 card in the PC.. i move my KB to the MB USB header to work in the bios and I move the KB to the USB card in the OS. Overall not a huge deal but a pain regardless..
I'm just happy I found mostly ok chipset drivers and Ethernet drivers (Inlet 211 I believe) that work and this rig has internet.
Win7 will very short lived and I don't expect it to install on the next generation of hardware. I wonder how it is on the latest Intel gear....

I'm on Windows 10. I miss Windows 7 Ultimate more than I can say. Windows 10 is Windows 7 with a heavy duty wrapper. Hence the upgrade to W10 without the need to install fresh.

Turns out I had it on Win 10 - At my age the RAM in the noggin goes CRS.
Anyway, I've started setup and will try something a little later.

Well, things aren't going so good. Can't get anything aside from stock clocks to apply and it's probrably because I'm trying to run the R3 1200 in my X570 board. May not be 100% compatable but at least it does work but only at stock. I'm trying to find my other spare AM4 chip (X3600) but it's MIA and that figures too.

The bios supports the chip, but it's intended for bios flashing and recovery. But I'm shocked it doesn't OC. Any hoot. If Scotty hasn't sent mine back, do you want to try the Athlon 200ge in the X570 just for the hell of it?? See if it will OC? Also have a 1200. Both lidless.

Already have a 220G here to try and will give it a go next. Could be an issue with the board I've got and the 1200 chip, I recall somewhere there was initially an issue with first gen Ryzen's and the board I've got.
Anywhoo, I'm gonna set that up next and see.
BTW the new cooler so far is working like a charm AND I just got my 170 CFM fans in for it. I'll have to wire them up to run with what I've got but should be OK once done.... If they don't blow the cooler away. I'll probrably only run two instead of all four since I doubt I'll need all four in it.

I checked and updated the board's BIOS. Has more options in it now and will do some testing later. I know now the 220 wasn't supported by the old one and this one does support it so that's an improvement at least.

I know now the 220 wasn't supported by the old one and this one does support it so that's an improvement at least. I've seen that a lot of boards will support the 200ge but not the 220ge, I'm surprised it's now supported which is strange. The 1200 is supposed to be supported also, but the same. Some boards and bios revision just don't support it for whatever reason. I mean they should support 1 or 2 from each Gen for flashing purposes if the board doesn't have flash back or Qflash or w/e they name it on each manufacturer. The 200 should be supported by all boards and bios revisions however. My 200, 220 and 1200 all clock about the same. Not much difference between them at all.

I believe I now know why it's acting up. The 220G has an iGPU and the board for some reason can't seem to boot the chip because of it, not to meniton the board doesn't have onboard graphics anyway so..... That's probrably why it's balking.
Upgrading the BIOS made no difference aside from it showing the CPU as "Working" but that's it.
I've decided to get rid of the board, I'm not going to drive myself to grief over it and I know someone in need of it anyway for regular desktop use to solve a problem they are having with their system so that works out to the good. Just means now I really won't be playing but that's OK, maybe later I'll have something that actually works instead of it dicking around like this one is doing now.
Have fun guys.

You do NOT need to run benchmate on W7. It is not a requirement of this competition or HWBot. So my advice, stop trying
