Greeting W9! I am new here so seems like a great place to start...I have some good hardware death stories Its a really big list of dead hardware for me, but within the last week a GTX260 died mysteriously. The good news is that I was able to bring the card back to life with a VRM replacement, so not a total loss One of my saddest losses was a really nice P45 board. I was doing some memory challenge stuff and I burned up the north-bridge VRM...I just pushed it too hard

gday david, great to see you come along, looks like a gig board with the blue pcb, possibly a p45 ud3r

Nailed it! Thats the one, a really solid P45-UD3R with a strong IMC and FSB. I found this board at my local computer recyclers for $25 and I got alot of mileage out of it, no complaints.
I always wanted to get another one of the GB P45's. I was looking at UD3R vs UD3P and it seems many people had better memory results with the lower end R board. I always found that once you get the right D9 memory, the MB IMC becomes the limiting factor to getting deep into the 700's for memory frequency.

Hi David welcome aboard do drop in occasionally. I think a lot of us have had dead EP45 boards they go alright when going.

well i think good memory regardless of D9 , psc. is the key to any boards performance, imo, good memory can make a basic board look good in performance, memory is the key, you will not get the clocks without good memory to suit in my experience at it

Vin It was hard to believe for us too but somehow the copper layer survived however the pcb burned pretty badly and deeply. I was really sad when i discovered that blown vrm. However I haven't seen nearly any chance to see my old pal working again, I felt we have to try. Norbi did a miracle ! That board has really a warrior soul, survived this vrm blowing. I promised not to hurt her any more. Maybe I will turn on, doing some light training but no more harder mission.

Yes it does. Haven't touched it yet and in no hurry to, I'll find the part I need, clean up the affected area and try it once I have a replacement part to fix it with.

not killed but almost......
tightened water block too hard on my MAXIMUS VIII HERO and no boot. Q CODE "CC" and "55". tested all ram slots. none of them working. removed water block and could see couple of bent pins, tried to fix. now some times one ram slot and some times two ram slots working.(checked with different set of rams and confirmed it's not ram problem). in between i was getting couple of other Q CODES "49", "3F"(2 sticks in dual channel). tried 3 to 4 times and finally with a magnifying glass and safety pin, i was able to get it work. almost 3 hours and finally everything is ok.

That's good to hear. I did the same thing to my setup sometime ago and afterwards learned to simply snug it down, not to really torque it at all. As long as it's securely in place it's enough.
I do get booting problems on occasion after that happened so expect these issues to reappear from time to time, they very well could.

In my case it hasn't gotten any worse so it's good to go as is, for me at least. You could just take the affected pins and bent them up a tad more if you want to help things out, should eliminate most any issues with it period like it has with mine after doing that.

That is unfortunate. Sorry for the loss. thanks it really sucked man that 7700k was super bad ass 5.3ghz CB15 on 1.325v with normal tim and just a 120mm water cooler bad thing is it was most likely my fault for tightening the pot down too hard
