lol, Mac, you magnificent SOB.... She posts.. lol hahaha
I picked up another one in case the clocking doesn't go as planned, I also added heat-sinks to the mosfets and a beefier fan.

WTG did you pick up the board too?

WTG did you pick up the board too? I did.. but this GPU living was short lived.
got to windows and the screen started badly artifact'ing and them started in a boot loop. Now she wont post.
So I'm starting to mod the other card now. I'll move the heatsinks and leave the mod on it in hopes I don't blow this one and use it as a reference board to fix the other.

New card is modded and in Windows. This card has Hynix memory, stock vMem is 2.1v where the last card (Samsung) was running 1.9v.
I realize now that benching GPUPI didn't stress the Core so the mosfets never got hot. it wasn't until I started running 3DM03 that I noticed that the mosfets get to 70+ degrees. now they're heat-sync'd and large faned.
Wish me luck, hope I don't pop this one.\

Sorry to see the other one didn't make it, you did an amazing job of modding and getting it ready. I believe you'll do well with this one - Good luck!

I'm out. Can't break top 10 in ambient. Playing for the lucky draw.

Question, on reboots do you guys turn the volts down and once back up bring them back up? Or do you leave the upped volts as they were?
Cause I see the gpu really crank the volts up on boot up.

Thats Ok they do that just leave it where it is no need to turn it back down. When the Galaxy card had the standard VRM on it I was putting 1.57v through it at Shanes it was booting at 6.2v I think from memory. The GPU can handle it I was running 6.8v through it on water for GPUPI with the epower.
This card has a different VRM I take it what is the controller?

The memory section on this card was acting funny the whole time and now it just went out. it would be running 2.15v and then just drop to 1.65v for a bit then slowly crawl back and then drop again. I was thinking maybe the joint on pin 4 moved, but it didn't. I pulled it off the board and it was still doing it. now she's shorted, I didn't even hear a pop. PC just re-booted and my vmem is at 0.0v, just like that. I'll post up my 63k 3DM03 and then I'm out Vin

It was the controller chip as the first card?

First card popped the caps, the second card the memory voltage started bouncing until eventually just went away.
I'm going through the 2nd card now trying g to see what's failed on it. But I no visual indication yet. Granted all I have to see that small is a jewelers loop.
Odd, I figure I could compare the memory section from both cards, but I can't. Other than the controller, most of the parts are different. I was able to verify grounds and "not grounds" but the resistances and even the diodes and fets are different.

There are a few variations of the GTX260 there are about 5 different GPU VRM controllers used on the different brand cards. Memory would have variations too I am sure the memory controllers were different on the MSI and Galaxy I have here.

But I have 2 BFG MaxCore 55's, same part number and Bios version as per the sticker. One has Samsung memory, the other Hynix.
Layout is identical, but some of the components are different.
I'd kill for a schematic of this thing. Lol

There was one section on the back of the new card that had water damage, it was isolated so I didn't think much of it. At first I thought it was in a smokers pc.
I cleaned it off, but wondering if there was something else a foot. I didn't test it for more than a minute to make sure it got to windows, then I shut it down and moded it.
Just doesn't make sense

I have bought quite a few cards Vin and killed them quickly. The MSI 260 I used blew the VRM out in 5 mins @ 1.29v and I went straight to epower.

I get it, esp when parts blow like the 1st one. But this one didn't. I've been going though the card and I'm starting to suspect that the vMem controller ate the big one. I might just swap it from the other card and see what happens.

I got the first 260 that blew caps back. the screen has a mild artifacting now, but I'm re-installing Windows 7 and it doesn't look horrendous. I'm going to see if I can order new Aluminum-Polymer caps (561uF)and see if that would clear this up. I'm guessing that these electro cans aren't filtering enough and the noise is what's causing the issue (Fingers Crossed). the other one, well, I'm hunting for a replacement uP6161N, seems AliExpress is the only source I can find... I'd half expect those to be counterfeit anyone ever order IC's from ali that worked out? Vin
EDIT: she's not liking 3D apps, getting DeviceLost errors. could still be clock pulse related. hmm

Was playing for the draw the whole time myself, don't have anything that could compete for top spots in this. I wish there was a way to fix this and make it even for all. It just seems to be an impossible task. I still think unlimited 4/8 CPU is the best option for future comps, they are the most popular. Some of you guys should work on getting a 7700k/6700k that can do 5g. I have already started working on new vendors to sponsor another comp...
Looks like Macs dominated the 3D section, epic good job on that man!
I will ask for some feedback on changes for the future when I do the wrap-up thread...good time to yell if you wan to see changes.

David it was a great comp I had a lot of fun and a credit to you organising / setting it all up you have done a fantastic job. 4/8 CPU is the thing that most have and you want max participation you cant do much better than that.

Don't worry about that - There isn't any way you could have accomidated everyone, you did a great job with this comp and my particular situation isn't indicitive it was otherwise. Decide what you want, lay it out and let it go. In my situation I'm having to make do with what I've got and lucky to have that. Setting this comp up I know was a ton of work and it showed in how everything went, it's a real credit to you and those that helped things along just so the comp could get off the ground. As for myself..... Maybe next time - You never know.

Yup, agree with above. Comp was totally fine Dave. I had a decent card, just not enough CPU. I knew that going in. Just wanted to see where I landed.

it was a fun Comp Dave, I haven't benched in years and this was the first time in over a decade that I jumped in to modded GPU benching. I had fun. just too bad I had to cramp it all in to 3 days. but hey, that's how RL goes.
the setup was fine, it was moderated well.
if I can I'll try to participate in the next one.
