I sent my kids to your side of town. You probably met them without knowing it. Dads got a grip of candies!!! haha Hope you feel better soon. My wife's nerve blockers only help so much. I take them occasionally for sciatica. I've got it too and this cold snap has mine acting up. Had a doc visit today and was told if it gets worse the next option is surgery..... Nothing I want to happen but still beats being a cripple as the alternative and yes, there is no guarantee how it's gonna go if and when it happens. It's warmed up some here already and it's supposed to warm back up again by Friday here with highs in the 70's or so. Your weather sounds like ours. 25f today, next week near 60f. It messes with my shoulders, the arthritis in my right one has gotten worse. I'm trying to avoid surgery until I just can't take it anymore. Sleeping is my biggest battle. Would love more than 4 hours before one or the other shoulder wakes me up. I'm a side sleeper too.

Same here Shrimpy, I'm a side sleeper too and my right shoulder has arthritis in it as well. I got the doc yesterday to renew and make my Meloxicam perscription refillable and that's a plus for me. It was prescribed as a one time deal to see if it would help and in my case it did, so they changed that to make it refillable like the rest of what I take.
They confirmed the arthritis in my shoulder and neck earlier and that's why it was prescribed in the first place.

I got a Cortisone shot in mine a couple years ago, It didn't last long enough to do it again. Doc talks surgery.. Ehh, Can I get by 10 more years?? He's just got that look on his face, I know it was no. He said maybe lol. Basically it's up to me. I have bone on bone action in the ac joint. That's where the collar bone meets the shoulder. And sore on the backside, I forget what he called it. Ah well, all par for the course. I did it to myself lol. Chose my line of work. And love it. Just wish we could repair our bodies like we do automobiles boats and airplanes.

It's been a cold Halloween here for the kids. It's been in the mid 30sF during the day. 20sF at night. Breezy which brings the temps down. And we had about an inch or so of snow. It's sticking to the grassy surfaces mostly. But it is cold. My nerve damage is really bugging me now. We're about 50-60 miles Northwest of The City of Chicago so it gets a bit colder up here at times. I'm about 20 minutes or so from the Wisconsin border. I have been staying inside. I sent my kids to your side of town. You probably met them without knowing it. Dads got a grip of candies!!! haha Hope you feel better soon. My wife's nerve blockers only help so much. I take them occasionally for sciatica. Jon, our doorbell rang once all night. It was just too cold and snowy out there.

But there's a lot of kids on this part of town by the old high school. Kids brought home a decent grip!!! Told them to go over on your end so they could walk by that house that blew up. I'm surprised you didn't pop in to say it shook your house. People felt that one over a mile away. Are you sure you live in Woodstock by the Dairy queen? If so, itbwould have rattled your bones.

I was on Washington Street and Main Street at the stop sign right by the square when that thing blew. It sounded and felt like a train had derailed. Being that I was just at the railroad tracks I thought a train had hit something. I didn't know what had actually happened yet. I was on my way to get gas at the BP on Eastwood Drive. When I got there is when I saw the huge plume of smoke and all of us at the gas station were worried as to what was actually happening.

There were News helicopters hovering all over the area for hours after that. I was worried they might hit each other and cause another catastrophe.
The Winter weather unfortunately makes these sorts of things happen all of the time. It's so important to take gas and propane seriously. It ain't no joke.

They emptied the church shortly before and closed the school down. They could smell the gas, but no one could find the leak.
Those people where not home and lucky for that. They lost everything and just moved in there not too long ago.
What a shame.

Vinster: yes indeed, it has begun. According to our towns newspaper damage claims have been submitted. Now the insurance companies and their lawyers will start to place blame and the show will begin. Millions in damages. That was one hell of an explosion. We are all really blessed that there was no loss of life in this explosion. The saddest part is that the main explosion took out the house of a newlywed couple. It was their first house. They were just starting their new life together. That needs compensation. According to the newspaper: "A natural gas explosion shortly after 2:30 p.m. that Monday was apparently caused by a city contractor who was working on the sanitary sewer under the street. The process involves getting a camera into the sewer to assess repair needs. But blockage prevented the camera from entering the sewer line, and when a water flush failed to clear it, a root cutter was used. That's when the gas line, which runs through the sewer, was breached and caused the leak." My question would be........if they knew there was a gas line leak why couldn't they shut it off? I would think that the gas company could have been called and they could have shut that main down so that the damage could be found and repaired before the explosion happened. But I don't know the details of that sort of operation. Everyone's in a hurry to get all that maintenance done before the snows of winter arrive.

We're getting a couple of inches of snow here in far Northern Illinois. Possibly 3. Pretty normal for this time of year. It's the cold air that brings me down. Temps in the 20s. Winter is here. Roads will be slippery. I ran all of my errands and I'm staying in. I'm keeping busy putting computers together.

Well, well. Looks like we're in for a winter storm. I just finished all of my shopping. Some groceries. Had to make sure I have plenty of coffee and coffee creamer. A bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon to keep me warm as I shovel snow. Some chicken wings to snack on. Got a pot of Chili with beans going. Some gas for the snow blower. Plenty of calcium chloride to melt ice and snow. Got my snow suit and long johns laid out. Winter boots. Checked the tires on the Lexus RX350L AWD just in case I should need to move it in some emergency. Oh yeah, winter is here. Looks like rain, then snow. Then rain, then snow. When I was out this afternoon in my van I saw the city had the plow trucks out spreading salt so they know something serious is coming. They have been going at it all day........so yeah. They are predicting the wet heavy stuff. Chicago 3-6. But up here in Northern Illinois we "may" get considerably more but only time will tell. Jon and I are close the Illinois/Wisconsin border. One meteorologist said it could be 6-12 inches of that heavy wet stuff. I have to be careful here. I have a bad hip. It's been aching for the last two months. I'm thinking bursitis as that is common with me as of the last few years and then the nerve damage crap which is just a nuisance this time of year. I will do a little at a time. You can just "feel" the humidity in the air. You can smell it. Crispy moist air. That's what the whiskey is for. As long as I have my Kentucky Bourbon I don't much care about it. LOL
Jon and I are in that pink shaded area.

This is gonna be a crappy week here. This is the first of two storms coming down the pike. This weekend we have another one coming in. Possible blizzard conditions. Temps will drop down to below zero temps. This is gonna suck. I'm hunkering down. If I lose power this time like last year I'm more prepared with my new whole house generator. I won't freeze like I did last year. Oh man that sucked last year. We had no power for over two days and it was freaking cold.

austin86: I hate ice storms and the below zero temps and ice. I can't deal with the ice and the damage it causes. Ice dams on the house are just the worst. I'm sitting here in my robe and slippers with a piping hot cup of coffee in front of me just watching the shit happen. LOL This morning at about 6:00 a.m. we had rain mixed with snow. Only about an inch or so on the ground. Now it's noon time and the snow is picking up. Let's see if we really do get close to that foot of snow here they have been predicting. Looks cold and slippery out there.

Snow. A little last night. Drove right home through it. About an inch. Snowing now. Med steady. Adding another inch or so. Some more hours to go. Cold coming too.
But it's Chicago. You don't like the weather, stick around it'll change soon.

Yup. It's coming down a little more now but not bad yet. These winter storms are far spreading. I just heard Florida got hit with tornadoes. I hope everyone is alright.

I don't think we're going to get hit as hard as predicted. I'm looking outside and even though the roads look slippery I'm not seeing anywhere near that foot of snow out there and it's supposed to end after midnight. I think maybe 3-4 inches of wet snow. It was mixed with rain so that is what has kept it down. I haven't stepped outside the house. I'm nice and warm and cozy in here. I've got some coffee and a shot of whiskey in front of me.

Rods, this affecting you?
No, there were a couple a good ways to the south but nothing but wind and heavy rain here. The wind gusts were worse than the rain itself was and it helps we got all that really early in the morning so traffic wasn't too messed up. By a little after 8 this morning it was all gone, just the wind to deal with and by lunch that too had died down.

Luckily we didn't get what was originally predicted. So we're good here too. Where I am (Locally) it wasn't that bad but not too far off it was a different story with flooded areas/roads, trees down and so on. It depends on which part of the storm your specific location was hit by, luckily for us the worst we got wasn't that bad. Places about 10-15 miles W of here had flooding as described during morning rush hour and later too. Looks like Friday will be round 2 for the nasty stuff - We'll see.
