Looks neat. I'll have to see if there's spare funds to pick up one of those cards.

You can buy them for next to nothing mine is a Palit I havent even looked at it for about 6 yrs hope it still works.

Not gonna bother this time esp since I'd have to buy a card that would probrably go unused afterwards and it's nearly all 3D anyway. Have other things I'm working on and need to get all that done - Plus it's just too damn hot here for it in my case.

and it looks like there isn't a core or CPU limitation? or did I miss that?

No CPU limitation Vin the benches are chosen because CPU shouldnt make much difference to it Skydiver and Firestrike are just the Graphics score. A 4790k should be able to pretty well max the card out.

Need some advice. 4690K or 6700K for me Pete? Both do about the same clocks.

I would go with the 6700k is more efficient could be a couple of extra marks in there but wont be much.

Hey guys, I am super happy you will play with us in this new comp!!
Yea, like you said the CPU has officially 0% impact on the score. I tested 9900k at 5000MHz 8/16 vs 9900k at 800MHz 1/1 and the scores were identical. I also tested 7980XE 18/36 and there was officially no change in any of the 4 benchmarks. Socket 939/775 takes gold in all 4 benches...
That being said, we expect very strong competition with the GPU. I hope to see Macs 'golden fingers' in action. I haven't tested the Palit/Gainward cards but they are usually one of the best for all the old generations. Out of the cards I tested, MSI cyclone is my best (actually both cyclones I got are my 2 best). I tested a few HAWK's, which were pretty terrible, but they do have unlimited voltage in the OS and are LN2 ready out of the box. Giga SOC is one of the cheater cards if you can find it...

Have other things I'm working on and need to get all that done - Plus it's just too damn hot here for it in my case. I would give you a good card, one of my good bin rejects. However, you would have to pay shipping...which WILL be totally unrealistic...but let me know. I know Mr. Scott got the freebie last time and it was a bad clocker, I would aim to redeem myself with a freebie to you this time.
As for temps, how about AC loop chiller or even ice water benching? Both of those options are legal if you abide by the strict temperature limits (with graph hehe).

The offer is certainly appreciated but I'll have to pass. The guys here know I'm not a 3D bencher and here, it's just too hot in my benching area to do much more than sweat.
I also have some things I'm working on to be ready for the Harrisburg meet later. Better to work on it now that wait until the last minute with that stuff.

FWIW, I didn't expect a world record card. I was just happy to get a pro modded one. Luck of the draw will always be a factor. I still own the card BTW.

I put some subs in this comp last night and all but one were rejected being winter here I was worried about keeping the card at 20c and CPU Core 2 was 19c didnt even notice that. I will run them again tonight just give the CPU a bit more voltage.

I had problems with my temp readings not being accurate, always showing things much cooler than they actually were. Had to mega-volt the CPU just to be in compliance with the comp's temp requirements in the last one.

I have prepped another card for this comp hopefully he mem is a bit stronger than the first. Not much ground area on the card so I am using the original pins for the 6 pin plugs for extra ground the pins tin quite well and I just tin a strip of copper with plenty of solder and sit it on the pins and put the big iron on it and its soldered.

Looks good blew it up in 5 mins. It had a APW7165 8 pin Buck controller for the memory a pretty basic controller I measured pin 6 feedback 610 ohms so put a 20k trimmer to ground while doing the epower. When I got it going I ran a couple of runs of GPUPI got 1070Mhz out of the core pretty easily thought good then measured mem volts to be greeted with 1.38v thought gee I better turn that up a bit started winding the trimmer down it jumped to 1.4v then stopped a few more turns and the display went blank WTF a reboot card is dead gives a stuttered beep and the GPU led on the motherboard stays on. Ah well I have put a bid on another better pay more attension to this memory circuit on the next one.

Not sure dont think so or maybe it could of been it was strange the last thing I was expecting to happen. I have sent Dave a message if there was any quirk with it I seen he had the same card for sale with mods. I have put a bid on another exactly the same its about all they have here in Aus on Fleabay, Gigabyte sells a lot here. The Palit Sonic is doing Ok for now I have first in three of the benchmarks but its at the end of its tether not much more in it I am leading the ambient category.

Not to worry Vin the next one will have a Gen 5 Epower and memory will be powered from it the Gen 4 only has 1 CPU circuit. Only thing with that is sometimes epowering memory you lose mem speed sometimes it can work good or not so great its a 50/50 weather it will be better or worse.
