So I hadn't put much thought into APU processing while I always have a discrete graphics card. I seriously had no idea the AM4 APUs where 4rth Gen Bulldozer with a DDR4 memory controller. Pretty interesting, but I can't gather why AMD did this, but it looks like a decent setup just lacking the CPU IPC needed to make the IGP worth anything. The A10-9700 I was looking at is 3.4Ghz with Radeon R7 graphics unit clocks about 1029Mhz and a max number of 8 PCI-E lanes. But why? I did a comparison at UserBenchmark just for a quick example. I figure their numbers are close enough, so yea... It looks like an Athlon x2 200GE with Vega graphics is roughly 40-50% faster all around. Cpu IPC and Graphics with OC abilities also. A quick look at pricing, the A-10 9700 processor is roughly 85$ and the Athlon x2 (4T) with Vega graphics is roughly 60$. You can find these prices at US NewEgg. at US pricing. The Athlon would make for a better cheaper build for customer or friends or family and have just a better PC experience with it.

The A10-9700 was a bit of an in between APU and came out before the Athlon 200GE they were called Bristal Ridge and Raven Ridge accordingly. The A10 was a big improvement over earlier APU's with an improved Excavator core and DDR4 but still had R7 Graphics but wasnt in Ryzen APU league.
In the challenger series last year they let the A10 compete against FX 8350 the improved IPC made them hard to catch in SPi even using Nitrogen on the FX but in everything else the 8 cores of the FX was superior.

No kidding, I had no idea they got a decent bump in IPC. Wasn't the FX a 32nm chip as well? I thought AMD listed the Athlon as a CPU and not APU. It does have everything it needs to be an APU though...

Man look at that. Suppose a 4th revision aught to be faster, but that's pretty darn good actually.
I contemplated getting one, but the APUs are not on my cpu support list. The B350 boards do, but not the B450 (Asus Prime)
