OK X58 masters, need some ideas. My UD3R was running a 5660 Xeon fine for a week or two. One day upon startup I got a no post situation. Wound up having to remove the 5660 and put the 930 back in. Posted and still running perfectly. Tried the 5660 the other day in my P6T7 board......works perfectly. Re-installed the 5660 in the UD3R, no post. Bought a couple more Xeon's, both 4 core and 6 core. All run fine in the P6T7 board. None will post in the UD3R. Flashed every bios available for the UD3R. Results the same for all. UD3R will not run a Xeon at all. Makes no sense to me. It DID run them, and is supposed to run them. Out of ideas. This is where I am right now. 24/7 rock stable.

I wonder if just one of the pins in the socket isn't making a good contact to the Zeon Cpu where the 930 it may not be used/needed. Inspect the socket.

Done. Socket is flawless. Been messing with it a little more. Board fails post on memory with the Xeon's. Need to try a different set.

Current Memory modules decide F U Xeon processors and no post.... Not the weirdest thing to happen...lol

What memory Scotty? I generally run G.skill Trident PSC in mine but I have got a couple of triple channel sets of Hypers to try.

The OCZ's are Micron. I have a set of Hypers to try. I'll be on that tomorrow. Weird problem though. You would think it wouldn't matter with everything on auto at stock. And it did run for better than a week even with an overclock.

That is strange.

I've had my X58A-OC just stop working with one specific stick of ram for no reason. Stick worked fine in another board, took another of the same kit and it worked perfectly in the X58A-OC. From then on it wouldn't see that stick of ram ever again. 1366 can be odd sometimes.

Ram change made no difference. Post still stops on ram with Xeon's. Desktop CPU's all post and run flawlessly. I'm baffled.

It is a v2.0 board right?

Worth a try though. SO you can post bios but not windows then? If so, perhaps there are some parameters in windows that where changed at some point. Pop the 930 in and check PCI lock and perhaps memory amount in msconfig. Might also help to look through the services, perhaps there is one that needs to remain enabled.

Machine never finishes hardware check/post to get to bios. OS is irrelevant at this point. It's all a hardware issue.

I have one. 2 actually. All of my components have been tested in my P6T7 board. All work perfectly. I know the UD3R board is the issue. Just wondering if I can make it run Xeon's again. No big deal if not, but I'd really like to know why.

i dunno, never had an x58 board, wondering if its a a bios issue thats collapsed somewhere for the xeon but ok for the 930, thats all i can think off , was working prior for it

Both the main bios and the backup have been re-flashed successfully. No change. Board has a personality of it's own and says F U to Xeon's.

pull the battery, leave it for 24+ hours. then start it with a known good xeon.
Giga's can be funny this way...

could work vin, all gig boards do this that ive had, pull the battery , seems somehow to clear everything differently than just a cmos jumper clear, maybe its the caps they use that dont discharge quickly enough and need that extra time to completely discharge, i dunno, just a thought coz every gig board ive had has come good after a battery removal, also ive noticed theyre like dfi boards, they like a battery thats up in full power not a 2.8 or 2.9, nothing under 3.0v they seem to get a bit wonky
