Folding at home is a program that simulates folding a protein. When a protein in the human body "mis-folds", diseases form such as different cancers. This is my really short version explaining protein folding! More facts about what protein folding is in relation to diseases, can be found here. foldingathome.org/diseases/Your processors and or graphics processors do all the work on your idle cpu usage. The program can be run a couple of different ways, one way in a simple browser app. Another is a download. Find them Here: foldingathome.org/start-folding/ REMEMBER TO BOOKMARK IT!! If you are new to folding, I suggest trying the browser application first. It's super easy to set up. Put your name and team number which is 234770, and start folding. The slider bar controls how much processor usage you'd like to donate. For a minimum amount of usage, slide the bar all the way to the left. For maximum usage, all the way to the right. pretty much that simple. You will also find other F@H useful links in the browser version. This program only utilizes Cpu. The DL version is a bit different and a little more complicated, however it will also utilize both Cpu and GPU where the browser app only uses the CPU. The best way to get set up, is by reading the configuration guide which you can find here: foldingathome.org/support/faq/installation-guides/configuration-guide/________ ~ShrimpBrime

so what does it do if you start folding, and what results are from it ?

so what does it do if you start folding, and what results are from it ? what you're doing is donating you computers spare processing power for science. For the work your computer does, it calculates the total and you get a score as it turns it the work it has calculated.
I used to do it a lot, but having my computer on all the time and the increasing cost of hydro is what made me turn it off.

yeah but what vinnie, processing power for science for what, to do what ? i dont get it, i know 1 thing , ive always steered clear of gpus or cpus that have said used for mining coz of the continiual useage, and who know what sort of volts they had up em for higher clocks to gain more mining points, let alone the extra home power useage, i know that much about it, power prices are already thru the roof here in australia , one of the most expensive in the world, a big shit fight actually and its election time coming up next year both federal and state governments march for state and may for federal, and both are already trying all the bullshit speils of well do this well do that for power prices, it will break them as both governments . mark my words
anyway back to the topic

Some researches, such as finding a cure for cancer f.e, do require a lot of computing power, even universities do not have such resource to buy a lot of super computers to get the job done. Well, this is where we get in, using the spare cpu/gpu computing power from milions of domestic users around the globe is a good way to get done a calculation that would require 5 years down to 1 month only.

Installed it, on medium my PC pulls 110K Points Per Day (ppd). on max it peaked at 500K. seems my system is gaming stable but not folding stable, so to run it I need to tweak some settings.

Lol, yea it will test long term stability for sure. The Ryzen 2700X can pull off 35K by it'self.

coz ill tell you why im interested, but know nothing about this, i went for 2 mri scans on my knees today, theyre stuffed , bone to bone now, have been for a long time, has been for yrs, the back swelling has been there for yrs too, pain 24/7, turns out i have in 1 knee a 65 x 40 mill cyst in one knee, so i think its grown, other knee is not as bad but is there too, both knees have cysts, from what i dunno, i counted white things 5 when i saw the pics the mri guy showed me, all different sizes, so theres def an opp or opps coming, will wait till the doc sees it and gives his whats gotta happen, he already knows what ive had to deal with for 30 yrs, been getting cortisone needles for the last 20 +odd yrs, every 3 mths or i cant walk, work or do anything really with any success, im thinking these cysts are putting so much pressure everywhere coz theyve grown however ,even tho theyre bone is bone to bone now that have been causing most of my movement issues , new knees for sure i know i need that, but if i can last another 5 yrs without gettin em done ill be happy , ill be near dead then anyway and it wont matter
so my point is if i start folding will that help with finding out what causes cysts in whatever joints for people, coz i want to know if i start this just where and what it goes to

Any time. And I'm sorry to hear about your knees being so bad. I look forward to a pretty painful elderly age myself. I was never nice to my body during work or play. Gonna pay good for it.

I think some of it is natural aging and some is abuse. As it is now, right shoulder is shot, elbos are sore sometimes. Got some fatty liver disease and Hemmeroids since 27 years old. That's from all the heavy lifting and will never go away. Symptoms are rare now that I'm not working at the spring shop anymore. I figure by 60 my turd cutter will be almost useless..... haha but really not that funny. quite painful to be honest.

I have been. I need to exercise.... or more work(ing) out.... Just at 200 lbs I should be 25 lbs lighter man... According to some, I need to lose 40lbs. According to my doctor, I actually should put a bit more weight on. 6'2" and 237lbs with my work boots on, but doctor jokes that my bones are so dense that if I hit a brick wall, it would be needing repairs, while I'd just have scuffed skin... Every time I've gone in for an xray, they've had to reshoot it, because all they got the first time was noise... Gotta love the playful techs though, sometimes you'll get a lively one that's all "remember, if you start glowing, please come back to the emergency room" and then they zap like six photos back to back at various angles...
