Guys, today i installed for the first time the fusion block with my water cooling system, a 240mm radiator push only. The NB fusion block is the only block in this system, in another words, it has a whole cwc system to cool it. The thing is that the NB temperature in bios sits around 49°C with 1.4v or 1.55v, 550fsb, and room temperature at 26°C. The other voltages are: 1.325vcpu (e8400), 1.6v ddr3 stock all auto. Everything else is auto. I can't measure the this temp during load, but i ran sp32m couple times and system is rock solid, and i'm just running it to test the temps. I thought that with water the NB temp would be around 10°C delta to room temp. Any ideas if this is normal? Thanks is advance

I would say its probably normal you could try taking the heatsink assembly off and retimming it.

I don't know if you've taken the whole heatpipe assemply off either as the paste that's applied to the northbridge is often terrible and needs replacing.

I always try to keep nb temps <50...above 50 sometimes I have "extra" bsods codes...couple days ago 1st time I saw bsod (terminal_***...w7 64) on ep45t-extreme when she had 54/55 nb temp. Best regards

I would say its probably normal you could try taking the heatsink assembly off and retimming it. This is exactly what i did, temp drop 5°C looks like it was bad mounted I benched it yesterday night and was able to boot to bios at 620fsb and 590fsb to windows, 1.8v nb temp in bios was siting around 57°C. Using setfsb hit 638fsb wall on xp, but i could not validate it duo to corrupted file Anyway, i'll try today or tomorrow again with chilled water.

I'll replace it with mx4. Best regards This is exactly what i was having, lots of bsod when raised the temp above 1.7v nb.

May I ask what is your goal for trying to run the NB @ 1.7v? High FSB record? I mean it can be done but safe voltages would be 1.5/1.55 maybe even 1.6 with very good cooling for NB. But at 1.7v you need chilled or better cooling and even still with volts like that you really heading for bad things. be careful.

I don't know that much about x48 voltages, but i'm guiding myself using rex own references, being "normal", "high" and "crazy" max nb voltages 1.5v, 1.84v and above 1.85v respectively.

I personally never owned/ran that exact board (still trying to get my hands on one) only gave from my experience with volts. I pump mine till I smell it burning sometimes See what AlSlammer, Ving or whom ever else has had hands on with that board, see what they run NB volts at. Dont get me wrong, I do realize more volts is needed sometimes to reach a goal but you dont want your first to be your last. KEEP IT AS COOL AS POSSIBLE.

1.87v to get the bus up that high it needed it. I know Scannick was running the same voltage with the standard air cooler on it. One thing to remember its X48 not P45

I've just disassemble the mobo heatsink. I have this board for 2 years but never did this. By looking at it can someone here more experienced tell me if the tim is still original?

Not sure if its original but making good contact I see mine was similar explains your NB temp. I think a lot of them are probably like that. I have a very low opinion of the heatsink assembly a thin copper plate with 2 heatpipes running across it and another thin copper plate on the top with the waterblock on it would be much better the waterblock straight on the heatspreader

i bought a rex a few months back in the box, i got it for 300 , havent even fired it up yet , ill be checking the contact its got and lapping and reseating the heatsinks first if its no good then replacing the paste b4 i do fire it up

Well, after reassemble the mobo heatsink the temp drop incredibles 12°C! It really was bad mounted, can't believe i benched it like that... The heatsink has two corners around the NB area, that are supose to help with the alignment, but since you can't see under it is very easy to miss the alignment and have a bad mount without knowing it. 1.53v nb was sitting around 51°C in bios, now 39°C
