Hi lads, just wanted to share the info. I glued a couple of heat sinks on the socket back-plate, with a high 92mm high CFM, socket temps dropped by 6c, but more interesting, core temps on my 5820k also dropped by 6c! I ran P95 for 1hr, before and after adding the heat sinks (ambient 24c).

Interesting. It is very much the same mod as we use on the AM3+ boards when you run FX's. Pretty much the same results too. I will have to start doing this on more boards to see if it helps them also.

Very cool. Would it be possible to see a pic without the fan mounted? I do put a tornado fan on the backs of my mobo's but never tried mounting heat sinks.

Not anymore, as it is "permanently" glued, but here is a pic of some Asus board. It is exactly the same: Edit: sorry, yes sure, I was thinking of the heat sinks... Just a minute.

Ah, cool. Wasn't sure on how the h/s were mounted. I will be doing this to my boards, at least the ones that have a metal back plate. Thanx

Only issue is that I can't close the panel anymore!
I did not check the total height of HS+Fan.

You can always cut a hole in the panel to the size of fan you use and attach the fan to the panel from the outside.

Well, actually, unless I stress/bench, temps are fine@4.8/1.31v.
I'll use it for benching, as those 6/7C can help.
(and the fan is a 0.3A 92mm and it's damn noisy!)

Its a good idea 6 degrees is a good gain. Shane is an avid fan of putting a fan behind his board. (no pun intended) Me I put Vaseline there to seal out the ice build up.

yep i am too , i also have a small 60 x 60 fan hot glued to the back of the the motherboard cpu plate on this daily and when i had the fx- 4130 with the asrock 970 pro 3 as my daily for nearly 2 yrs b4 we changed it over to the 980BE and the asrock 890 fx deluxe 3 board , on the bench rig it came with about 1 inch plastic standoffs so it put some small fibre washers on top of the standoffs to give me another 1/8" of height to fit a 120 x 25 mm under the cpu socket area, i beleive it does make a difference

Part of the reason the back of the board gets warm too is the mosfets 85% of the mosfet heat goes out through the back of them where they are soldered on. (you should know that Vin) The super large heatsinks on the top of them only takes so much of the heat away.

Ya I know that, but I figured the heat sinks on them would do well enough. didn't think that putting a fan on the back PCB would have that much of an impact. Vin
