Hi all,
I got this 780ti on the cheap a couple of days ago and I kind of struggle with it, on a couple of points.
- First one: the card runs fine, but I have to cold boot when I want to restart Windows, as I get a 3B BSOD otherwise (100%). With stock bios, Skyn3t bios and the ones I've modded. I've reinstalled windows a couple of times, no change. It's not really a problem, as the card runs fine: a few hours of ARMA3 and COD BO3, no vSync@1300/7600/1.08v. Heaven@1325/7800/1.08v, Catzilla@1350/8000/1.1v. Everything was smooth, no crash or whatsoever, but still, it annoys me, this 3B BSOD, lol!
- Second one, and this one is painful: the card is a great clocker. less than 1.1v for 1325MHz! But as soon as I feed it with more than 1.125v, it looses stability and crashes the PC. Temps are fine (below 55c on full load). I don't understand what the issue is. It will run Catzilla@1350/8000/1.1v, but it will crash@1250/8000/1.2v. I am lost on this one.
If anyone has a clue!
Cheers,
HoD.

When using the Skyn3t bios are you turning the power target all the way up to 200%? I have got a EVGA one but its just a reference design it does most benches around 1370/7900 I can put 1.26 volt through it without too many problems. It sounds like it has to do with the power target.

Power target on 200% with the Skyn3t bios. I gave a try again a couple of hours ago:
- STock bios modded (by me) with power target@200%: 1325/8000/1.08v in Heaven/3Dm11/Catzilla, max temp 55c. ANd gaming rock solid (arma 3, COD BO3, Witcher 3...) - Skyn3t bios, power target 200% : 1325/8000/1.08v, instant crash in heaven.
WHat I find strange is that it goes through all benchmarks between 1325 and 1350MHz/1.1v, (power target 200%), but whe I put more than 1.15v (1.125 on load with vDroop), I get artifacts and instability.

yep, just seen that, thanks.
I'll give it a try tomorrow morning.
But, unfortunately, it seems the card hits a wall a bit above 1340/1350MHz: I ran heaven@1340/1.13v/48c max (still chilly here in Ireland, lol!). No way to pass 1350: as soon as I feed it with more current, I get artifacts and crash with reboot. Maybe my PSU, the PCIe rail not being stable enough?

Well, tried the Skyn3t ref bios, same thing.
Trying some old drivers, just to make sure it's not the issue.

I think you're gonna find that the card was whipped on before you got it.

That could be it also Graphics cards are in the silicon lottery too. Take my pair of HD7950 bought from the store and they virtually have running serials one does 1260/1600 the other does 1170/1530 and the mem in the second one is unstable at that speed. As long as they run reliable at standard clocks they are good for sale as far as the Manufacturer is concerned a lot of the time.

It seems I finally nailed it: drivers were causing the BSOD and the instant crashes from 1.175v and above. Card now becomes unstable a bit above 60c, which I think is normal (the ref 780ti I used to have was doing the same, at much lower clocks though). As an example, I can run any of the 3dm11 benchmark individually @1387/7800/1.18v, but if i want to go through the all suite, it crashes in the 2nd or 4th graphic test, when temp reaches 62/63c. Will do some benchmarks tonight, ambient will be in the 8/10c range, just to see if the instability is temp related only. If it's proven successful, I might go for a full block, as I still have a spare 280 rad and some fittings tubing. Thanks all for your advice! WIll keep you posted and I might bring some more points to the team on the bot! Edit: did not see your post Scotty! Card always ran stock: got it from a buddy of mine that used in in SLi in a gaming rig, always ran stock (100% sure). Edit 2: Skyn3t stil a no go. Instant crash when getting above 1250MHz and/or 1.18v. No big deal though, as I just use the stock MSI bios with a 600W power limit. No throttling at all or instability. SO far so good! Edit 3 : used the 353.30 drivers (359's, 361 and 365 were giving BSOD at reboot).

Kinda interested in what the ASIC quality is on that card.

Nice. Slightly above average card. Would probably be a good cold card.

pom pom pom back to this thread. Here is what I get: 1400MHz/7800MHz/1.1v. If I push above 1.1'ishv, it crashes almost instantly, and if I go above 1400MZ@1.1v, it crashes when it reaches 60C. Kind of weird: first time I face this issue, at such low voltage. So, would it be possible that the voltage reading is wrong?

Only real way to know is read it with a meter

^Yep, do you know where I get the reading on the PCB? Ref Board.

I usually measure from the caps on the front but I know thats going to be hard with the standard cooler on there. I would try the positive end of the caps right at the back of the GPU pictured below. Dont short anything though and measure while its running a 3D bench. After breakfast I will get my card and test for an easier point.

Ok, using the 350.12 drivers now, and no more crash, even all the way to 1.3v!

Ah right I will remember that I intend to freeze mine next week probably for Challenger Div1 I will be using the cold Bios on HWBot 500% power target
