I got this board from Jr to which I say Thankyou Champion. With the fault that USB was not working it had been frozen by the original owner and the USB had stopped working after that. I dont know what insulation was used as there is no evidence of any . Other than that the board is in excellent condition. So I set it up last night and sure enough no USB so straight away I thought lets see if the USB2 headers at the bottom of the board work and sure enough they did 4 USB2 ports there so I proceeded to install to which I was using a standard W7 USB stick without the Z170 intel sata drivers (Dumb Me). Changed to the W7 usb key that I use for Maximus VIII Hero and the install went without a hitch. Time to check out the problem with the USB ports on the back of the board so I used a USB cable in the second pic and connected my multi to the positive power wire plugged in and was greeted with 3.7v not the 5v that is required so I got a short USBA to A cable one you get with an external drive case and sliced the cable insulation off and connected a molex 5v wire to the USB positive wire and plugged that in to the USB port as soon as I plugged the drive in to the cable I was greeted with the drive on the screen so the USB data signal lines are fine and its just no 5v power being supplied to the USB port. Now its time to take the board back off the bench and plug the usb cable into the port with the meter on resistance and probe around and find out where it pops up and why power is not getting through I think its going to be a surface mount mosfet thats near the single USB3 port next to the memory module and that looks like a bugger to change there is the USB3 front panel header and an electo right next to it but until I probe I dont know for sure. If it does turn out to be a hard to impossible to fix I will just run a wire under the board from a 5v pin from the 24 pin connector to the power pins on the USB ports to power the ports glue the wire in place with epoxy then paint the board with rubber paint. I will post again what fix I use for it. Before it does come off the bench I am going to have a play with it tonight and see what it OC's like. One thing is for sure I am over the moon with it, it will surely beat the hell out of the Maximus VIII Hero that I have got for Skylake.

your gonna like it that is for sure they are beasts of a OC mobo for Z170/270 not quite as good as MOCF (since OFC has 4 mem slots) but should still be just as good the mem profiles are great too I think you will really enjoy the board I love my MOCF

normally every USB hub has it's own fuse. check that first. there's usually a fuse for the rear ports (sometimes 2) and another for the internal USB ports (again, sometimes 2)
my bet is a fuse popped... as it's only on the 5v, never the data.

Good find Jas There is a lot of circuitry on the back of the board more than most. What is the trick to clocking the memory in this thing the best I can get is 2800 mhz doesnt matter weather the timings are tight loose or on Auto. It was very frustrating last night.

Yep good info there I was stuck on that. Simply forget IMC is not strong enough to do all the high frequency

Just tried your setting Jas doesnt work 2800 is fine 2933 or higher is a no post. Booting to windows I wish the thing wont go through post if the mem is set at anything above 2800 the debug goes 19 to 43 and back and forth a few times then resets itself to safe mode and allows you to enter bios. 2800 is fine 2933 is a no post Debug 19 to 43 and back and forth there has to be more to it these sticks will run XMP no problems 4266 cas19 1.4v in the Apex surely they can post 2993 with 1.8v which is what I have had the voltage set at and just now 1.95v

Mac's try one of the lesser ram profiles. 3733 eg. these rams go 19-25-25-45-780 2T. Watch out for that 65K ram setting is not auto. But general booting 1T is pain. I take it down to 2133mhz then & build it back up

Thanks for your help fella's
I am now at 3866 12-12-12-220-2T SPI 4M stable. I dont like the 2T but it could just be the ram I am going to invest in another set later this month.
I was tired last night and not getting over 2800 had me wondering. Its not as easy to time up as the Apex.
I am going to look into the USB now.

I have got the ram timings sorted and the USB is all working now I stole 3 fuseable resistors from a dead AX370 Gaming 7. Only thing is when I put it back on the bench now one ram stick isnt working it did this when I first set it up and I reseated the CPU and it was good but now its doing it again

The mem channel problem is the socket not the slot I backed off the pressure on the waterblock a bit and presto the channel was alive again. A bad BGA joint under the socket thems the breaks I might replace the socket one day but it is useable for now. I have got a Z97 Soc Force that needs doing as well. Maybe Scotty in AU had the pot too tight. I like the board too it goes well and the bios has grown on me.

Get it a little too tight and it loses a channel. I just snug mine down and as long as temps look good it's fine and so far that's been the ticket with it.
