I'll be using this small adjustable buck converter for power on the vdimm mod. 5v in from PSU to any vdimm up to 5v. 3.6v will be my usual goal here. FWIW, I do own an OCZ Booster, but what fun is that. Anybody can do that.
Output of converter goes to the output side of the vdimm mosfet (in yellow).
VTT will track automatically up to about 3.5v vdimm on a NF7 so no VTT mod will be necessary.

That is a cheap ebay one. I think I bought 6 for 10 bucks. They work pretty good except I added a small heatsink to them. Got a little warmer than I liked.

VDD mod is complete now. I opted for the pencil method, mostly because my carpul tunnel is acting up today and I can just about feel my fingers, so no fine soldering today. Starting resistance was 577 ohms. After a few pencil strokes across the resistor, it now reads 504 ohms. That should yield me about a .2v increase in NB voltage. Perfect. That will get me to 2.0v.
Board is complete. All heatsinked and ready for battle.

Ah yes I see your pencilled resistor. All looks good where did you attach your Buck controller to the leg of the associated Cap or is there section you can scrape the screen off to expose copper?

Yes. No need to adjust vdimm in the bios with this. Buck converter is totally adjustable. There are only a few boards you can get away with this on. AN7 and Ultra B cannot do this. AN7 has OVP at 3.2v and Ultra B will just plain blow up.

VDD mod is acceptable. Max VDD is 1.96v. Right where I needed it. Buck converter has a little vdroop. Needs to be set at 3.7v to output a solid 3.5v Board limits vdimm. Best actual vdimm I could get with the OCZ Booster was 3.4v With this setup I get an actual 3.5v at the dimms. Worth it? Eh.....if you're an overclocker every tenth counts. I claim it as a victory.

What was wrong with your booster? On my NF7 the booster will go to 4v I am sure I have had it at 3.8 dropping to 3.7 while running and there was more in it I will have it going soon. What voltage you got the Buck plugged into get it off the 5v and onto the 12v remember to wind the trimmer down first. There is a voltage drop with those you dont get the output that you input. What is it rated for. Max Input = 36v Max Output = 30v Or something similar.

Nothing wrong with the booster. The ram runs better in the first and third slots. Booster takes my first slot if I use it. Booster will read 4v but the actual measured at the dimms is only 3.4v. The buck is doing the same thing + a tenth. Buck max input is 40v, output 36v I will try 12v input. Never thought of using it. Figured 5v I'd never need more.

Generally forward bias for a diode / transistor is around .6v if the regulator has 2 transistors in a darlington arrangement or something similar there is at least 1.2v or more your output will be below the input. I am interested to see how you go running off the 12v rail. The same thing applies if you raise the 3.3v rail to 3.6v you will never get 3.6v out of a voltmod for memory 3.4 is the most you can likely expect in most situations because of the transistor forward bias.

One thing beware of connecting the booster to a board that doesnt suit I connected it to the DFI Nforce2 Rev A that I got from Scruffy and started turning the pot up watching for voltage increase and poof a puff of smoke and 2 burnt mosfets on the booster didnt affect the board though it was still working Ok afterwards.
Made a cable for 12v. I'll change that tomorrow. Kinda interested also.

NF7 tip. It's basically my only reason for doing this. Otherwise I would just stick to the booster.

I didn't either, but that's what I'm seeing with a DMM. Wonder if it has to do with resistance when the traces split to go to the individual slots. Smaller track, more resistance. Dunno. Just guessing.

Been wanting to do the dirty punk mod to mine complete with a way to turn it on or off as desired/needed. If I were to really try it, believe I could get more than 3.3v's once I work things out completely along with the ability to turn it on as I want.
Could be another soldering project to do for the helluvit.
