Can I use my DDR from Opteron K8N DRE in my NF2 socket A board? Shouldn't be a problem right? Guessing the OC won't be great on the other hand......

Ehhhhh...........you might be able to, but the Ultra B is a picky bitch with ram. Run that BH-5 I sent you in it. That will work no problem. So will the TCCD.

Sorry to dust off this thread but I am thinking of dusting off the SkT A rig. Still got a Ultra B myself I have some Mushkin Redline in my board, can't remember if they were 3.2GB/s (3200 or 4.0GB/s(4000). Never removed the hs from them, but I was wondering if anyone got 4GB running it this board that has only 3 slots?

Good question.....I've never heard of it being done before and with DFI's being DFI's (Picky), probrably won't work but there are others it's certainly possible.
I'll let Mr.Scott and others chime in on this.

It can be done, but you have to balance the amounts evenly in the channels. You won't see 4 gig on a 32 bit OS, so it's kinda a waste. Don't bank on W7 working 100% on socket A either.

Ive ran W7 on it before, only thing lacking was the AGPGART but i think there is a modded version for it now. Also I know I would need a balanced set of ram, so a 2GB module would be needed for the last slot. I also know there is no guarantee that a ECC module will work with existing ram...

I tried to post 4GB 2GB x2 ECC registered memory in the AN7 last night. That was a pure no post situation stuck on code AF. (I call that All F'ed) and just sits there lol.
Back to the 512MB A-Data. probably clocks better..... lol

Nothing bigger than a 1 gig stick.

As a rule of thumb - do not use any registered memory on desktop boards. Registered means sticks that have additional chips between RAM chips and gold pins. I think this might cause damage in some cases. I've seen an FB-DIMM module cut to fit in an ordinary DDR2 board, LOL. ECC modules are a different case - these often work in desktop boards but not always. Easy to identify by an extra mem chip - 9th (8 RAM + 1 ECC) in a row or 5th (4 RAM + 1 ECC).

They are 2GB registered chips for sure. I ran them in Socket 940 Asus K8n-DRE. But thank you for the damage warning. I'd like not to break any of my hardware from curiosity lol. Good to see you Antinomy. You should stop by more often!
