So i've recently got myself a nice stereo, this one is a Loewe rs2000 Everything works fine except the tape deck. i've fixed few by replacing the belts but that's not the case there. the belts are all fine, the capstan spins like it should and you can reverse/ff without a problem, but for some reason the whole head assembly doesn't go up when you press play. just stays down, so i figured there should be some sort of mechanical lever that got broken and no longer pushes it up, but this is a really complicated one to me. Anyone can relate to being puzzled by those things? Here is the head assembly in the resting position Here's how it should come up when you press play I'd like to listen to your stories if you've ever messed with these things guys

Been a long time since I have repaired tape decks What pushes it up into the play position is there a lever from the play button that is broken?

The thing is i can't see any sort of mechanical lever that would push it up. maybe i have to disassemble it more? here's a video of that.

Generally that is how they work when you push the play button it pushes the head assembly into position so there must be a reason why it isnt doing that. Is there any resistance when you push the play button or does it just push down easily there should be resistance because it has to push against the springs. I would say you might have to disassemble it a bit more to see what exactly is happening.

from what i see theres got to be something with that row of 6 black lever things behind the buttons that activates something when you push what ever button , the play, stop, pause buttons etc, they look like they move or swivel down or up to activate

There is some reistance, because it's pushing that one lever i've pointed in the video. i'm not sure though what it does. I can't see any lever that would push the heads up that's connected to the play button though. So i think you're right i'll disassemble it more and show you guys what's inside

that's a good one, I think you're right about missing a lever in there, or a broken one.
you didn't get any presents/spare parts in the shell when you took the deck out?
keep us updated

Thanks for the compliment, but Mac's got years on me in the repair business.
I've see a flurry of ways they got that mech up. the most popular I've seen is like a teeter-totter with the balance to the one side, assisted with a spring to snap it up to a lock. The Lock was released by any other button. My LXI deck that I recently fixed was the most complicated I'd ever seen. luckily it just needed 3 belts, the mech was fine.
