I set up my Ryzen 1800X yesterday and ran a couple of benches last night I am impressed with it. Bios settings are sparse you only get a few voltage settings and clock settings plus some memory settings. I used this basic guide here actually written by Sofos for my starting efforts overclocking.guide/gigabyte-ryzen-7-overclocking-guide/2 Excerpts from the Guide. AMD only supports the following system memory multipliers (memory frequencies): 2133, 2666, 2933 and 3200MHzAMD only provides 5 memory timing settings: CAS Latency, tRCDRD, tRCDWR, tRP and tRAS.As I said the Bios settings are sparse. If you want faster memory speeds you have to raise the baseclock more experimentation to be done there.
Vin has said recently that he wants to upgrade his aging 980X my advice is to go for one of these the price is great some of the X370 boards are cheap too like the Asrock Fatality. My advice to anyone going to build a new system is to get one of these. One thing for sure its got the grunt.
Here are a couple of Cine 11 and 15 screenshots comparing the 1800X to the X5960. Ryzen @ 4.2Ghz X5960 @ 4.7Ghz
First we have the Cine 11 Ryzen 1800X followed by the Intel X5960
Next we have Cine 15 of both CPUs

Impressive indeed!
Not a Gigabyte fan myself but for some it's as good as any out there. With that said I'm an Asus fan myself and if I do get one that will be the board brand I go for but.... It will be sometime before I do.
Keep working with it Mac and good luck!

I probably would not have bought the Gigabyte board either but it was free. I am going to download the manual for the CrosshairVI just to see what settings they have got in there.

Nothing wrong with a freebie - Run it like you got it for free the not so E-Z way!

Thanks for the showing, best price for the buck I've read is going with the 1700 over the 1700X and 1800X. It seems to be able to hit near the same clocks as a 1700X and for 24/7 use you don't notice much difference than the more expensive CPU's. so for the price point, I'm leaning with the 1700. Still waiting until the house stuff settles down before I upgrade as the MB/CPU/RAM will cost me over $1000 before Taxes.. I am also leaning towards the Asus ROG board. I haven't owned an Asus board for 24/7 use in well over a decade. Time to put one back in the main box. Vin

i think id go with an asus rog board too, also a 1700, not coz its the cheapest but it has more headroom for overclock with a low TDP, im waitin to see what ryzen has to offer comin up in the APU series, somehow i think they just might shock a lot of people if their fm2 APU's are any example

Plus they are going into the same board mine has got graphics ports on the backplane. I would always prefer a graphics card over integrated
