I'm running two r9-290x's. I've recently had to disable Crossfire on the game that I mainly play (Insurgency) as it was crashing with the latest update. With crossfire off, I have no issues, but I also lose between 40-60fps on large maps.. small maps I'm still in the 100-120fps... I'm thinking of going back to nVidia (always was my preference) but I really don't know what I should upgrade too. I don't need a 1080 but I always prefer getting the highest end cards as it future proofs you for near 5 years. But the prices of these cards are just way too far out there for me. I'd consider getting B-Stock from EVGA as I'd save $100+ and still have a warranty... Newegg.ca; www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487318EVGA B-Stock of the same card; www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6183-RXafter exchange I save about $150CAD... So that I might consider once I'm there. But I'm looking to go to a single card again, mainly as the budget games I get don't usually support multi GPU's. I won't be pulling the trigger for atleast another few months, but I want to start reading around and would like some recommendations. Vin

Your only saving 150$ to take a chance. Buy new and get all accessories and the better warranty too. Plus that new card smell.....

save up your money Vin and buy a 1080ti or 1080 you wont be let down 1080ti will start at $699 (price the 1080 started at they are $100 less now) for founders edition so you will find AIB cards for a little less (unless you try for like a EVGA Classified for Kingpin models) like Jon said dont buy a B-Stock that is someones trade-in from the setup program you dont wanna be RMA'n a card ya just got cause someone used it before I almost pulled the trigger on a 1080 and I am glad I didnt now I can get a 1080ti and have a real good upgrade from my 980 sli

Meh, I don't care about accessories. And the $699usd for the TI will be $950+ 13% tax... so $1075 in my pc... that's steap...
I'm thinking in 3-6 months pending the reviews and benches I'll upgrade to a ryzen, so i'll be $1000 for a CPU/MB/RAM... so that much for a GPU isn't favorable.
I get what you're saying. Shader count on the 1080ti is crazy.

remember the $699 is for the FE and AIBs are cheaper its better then titan XP its worth every dime if your gonna have a nice gaming PC that is gonna play AAA titles for the next 4-5 years easy that 1080ti is the way to go but you could always get a 1080 that would be a damn serious upgrade and still a strong GPU and they are $599 for FE so AIB are cheaper cause they dropped $100 same with 1060 and 1070 if you plan on SLI 1070 and up is the only way to go since 1060 doesnt have sli

There are hacks to make 1060sli work. But I don't want to SLI/Xfire anymore. Been there, done that. For a 24/7 setup and the lack of support so many games have. It's not worth it for me.

Vin that is why I would go with either a1080 or 1080ti single card will play games for a long time and it will be well worth the money plus think of all the points you will get when you bench it lmao

If i would go down this 1080ti road, that would bean that I spend over $2k on a PC in the next 3-6 months...
wonder if the 1080ti would work in an X58 board? I know the CPU would be the bottleneck, but I just have an issue justifying that much on a 5$ game that was a gift... lol in this short amount of time...

Vin yea CPU would prob bottleneck it pretty good even with say a i7 960 as for 2k on a PC that is close to what I got in mine already and I still wanna make a GPU upgrade you could always look at a 1070 also they are a damn good card also

I would go with the 1070 Vin unless you are on a large 4k monitor. Save your money. What are you going into professional gaming now. Who wants to spend 2K on a Daily runner.

I did and would again too it was worth every freakin dime I spent on it when I game but I also play 4K so you gotta have some serious shit for that and hell dont you got a 5960x hell that costs more then most peoples whole PC so saying who spends $2k on a daily runner is kinda contradictory

my monitor is 1440p. But I may be in to 4K in the future hence why I'm thinking of future proofing. I ran my GTX580's for 4 years, these 290x's for 4 years.. kind of hoping that the next would be a single GPU that can hold me at least another 4 years...
the idea of "I can xfier or SLI later if I need it" I'm getting that metality out of my head. it worked in the early years, but nowadays it's not scaled/supported well in gaming. it's a benching thing now.

Vin if you are gonna go 4k then save the money and get a 1080ti or 1080 my 2 980s keep up with a 1080 and have a hard time with newer AAA titles in 4K later on down the rd if shit starts to get rough for a single 1080ti you can always buy a 2nd I got a buddy that did tons of testing with 1070 SLI and some titles 4k was rough on it esp the division I can only run that at 1440 and I gotta turn 1-2 settings down I play lots of games man and for the newer titles coming out you want lots of GPU power and I got tons of new games that is why I want a 1080ti and as for SLI with the 10 series it scales way better then SLI ever has you almost get double FPS go look at 1080 sli reviews you will see SLI is way better then before

just did a price check... if I went Zen with an 1800x (for an example, not enough real benches to make a decision yet) a CPU/MB/16GB RAM is $1150, everything I've read on the 1080ti out here will be between $950-$1050 here in Canada... so $2200+13% tax would be $2486...
I don't think my tax return will be that good...
I hope a 10x0 GPU with my 980x won't be too bottle necked.

I dont think you will bottleneck it that much if any that is a pretty decent CPU from what I remember you should be good

Insurgency is your main game play? Isn't that only DX9? I don't think you need any big dollar video card for that game at all.
You could get away with a GTX 780 with your Intel CPU and run the 122fps/hz all day unless the game uses Physx. Then you may see some fps drop a little bit here and there....
I purchased a Used GTX Titan strictly for gaming Hawken which uses NV Physx. Frame rates maxed out detail is almost always over 100fps or stuck at the 122hz cap of my monitor. (1080P)
What I'm saying is you could easily play this game on a much smaller dollar amount.

the thing is what if he wants to play something else a new AAA title he gets a cheap ass card he aint gonna be doing that he has a R9 290x already anything below a 900 series is a downgrade lmao

It's insurgency right now (yes DX9.0c), Its brought me back to the glory days of COD4 with the great mods and dedicated servers. But before/after that was all the BF, CS, COD series, Crysis and Medal of Honor. I'm a First Person Shooter lover...
I would had jumped on BF1, but I know my GPU's can't deal with it well so I paused getting that game. I won't play an expensive game (for me a game worth $10 or more) and not want to get the top level of detail at my monitors native resolution.
I can see myself getting a 4k monitor in the future (1-2 years) as they are getting cheap... and games will just require more HW as we go, and I don't what to get another GPU unless I'm at my 4-5year timeline.

Never heard of Titanfall, checking it out it has a crysis feel. but there's too many guns and gadgets. BF1 I got to try it for a night on the pre-release, it was a struggle. that's why I didn't buy it.
