I'm active here but not benching right now, hoping to fix that in the coming months.
But what keeps you guys busy outside of benching? Figured I'd start a thread so we can get to know each other a little more.
I work for myself (Independent Contractor/Consultant), I program machines that make a range of things based on clients.. (automotive to food processing). Mainly using PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers by Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, etc..) and SCADA/HMI's (Supervisory Controls and Data Aquisition and Human Machine Interface), can also do C, C++, VB... learned in the DOS days.. some of it is a little trickier for me because of the deep windows involvement (esp as it get more windows involved with every OS release)
But I also fix audio gear... that's my true passion... working on electronics I can do for hours on end...
Here is a pic of my electronics work bench (some gear I have to leave under the desk as I don't have space on the desk), here I'm testing a Technics SU-G50 that I just fixed and verifying it's output and testing its max output.
I'm also an audiophile... love music and a major critic of music output (yep, I'm a vinyl lover too)
Last night I left my own new years party to pick up a great deal on this (I luckily hadn't starting drinking yet);
Nikko Alpha 220 Power amp, Beta 20 Pre-Amp and EQ-1...
Needs cleanup and service, but nothing I can't handle...
But work overall for me work has gotten slow/stressful... I've been putting my wife through school for the last year... she's a few weeks away for finishing. (yay ) but I'm also near the end of my 8 month financial cushion (Boo ).
Many of my regular customers have closed up shop, my contacts that have moved on to new places but are no longer in positions where they can call me in. I'm old school on the way I do business (word of mouth and a handshake).. I don't advertise/market online...
I'm looking at a full time job that'll start in March (friend of mine needs a senior guy), good pay, overtime, benefits package (two of the three that I haven' had in years).. and I still get to work from my home office, which is very nice so I can be home for my 2 kids (Boy, 9yrs old... Girl, 7yrs old)
So that's me in a nut shell...
If things go as planned in the summer we'll be moving slightly in the country to a larger place (Full Work Office/Den, Full Proper Electronics Bench Area, Full computer work space/benching space) where my benching gear doesn't have to share space with my work space.
I'm really looking forward to it, it's time for a change.
Feel free to share as much (or as little or at all) that you want. Like everything here, there's no pressure or judgement.
I'd like to think of us as a Overclocking family and sometimes it's helpful to us if we know what some of our family members can do.
