Picking up some new hardware and noticed that the 4770K costs more than 4790K not an area that I'm familiar with so is the 4770K hanging onto it's price for being a better CPU? It's what I'm seeing at Newegg.

4770k is sold by someone other then newegg so the price is higher then normal the 4790k is sold by newegg so you get the normal price the 4770k shouldnt be more but since it is sold from a 3rd by newegg its more

There isnt much between them only weather you get a good bad CPU (silicon lottery) some people have got a good 4770k some have good 4790k. The thermal paste under the die was supposed to be improved with the 4790k. (That doesnt matter for me I fit the naked CPU put a good coating of Gelid on the die then put the heatspreader on and close the load plate.) You are probably going to get a better one if you get a 4790k but not always if you do find a cheap 4770k I would buy it. As for them holding there price they still want big dollars for the 3770k too

Thanks all, probably go with a 4790 feel better with new and a chance, unless I can find a 4770 from a large recycler at a decent price afraid of getting a binning reject or a real low sell count could be a gamer upgrading. RAM wise think I waited just a bit to long settled on some Corsair DDR3 3000 wasn't going to pay the difference for G Skill 3100s and thought there was higher binned for less a few months back.

I would go with the 4790k too. I am sure you will be happy with the improved IPC. One thing of note Z87/Z97 doesnt have XP drivers but dont worry it installs Ok and benches great.

Any idea on the board you will go for. I have got both a Maximus VII Hero and a Z170X SOC Force I prefer the Gigabyte but there is not a lot in it they both perform well.

It's very hard and maybe stupid thing to say facts from haswells. They can be show insanely different things sometimes. In great lines and You shall imagine very very great lines here the 4770k-s clocking worse, can reach higher uncore clocks and likes cold much better than dc-s. But You can find examples the opposite of all thing pretty easy. Like my 4790k. However it's a DC, it's bloody high leakage and keen on cold at a freaky level. Nearly totally inappropriate for 2d but able for 3d runs with my weak ss even. I really love it every time. Haswell is my favourite modern platform. Just because it's a little bitch made every session a bit different.

My new 24/7 platform. Downclocked, lowered voltages. 1.56 vccin, 0.85 vcore, 0.9 vring, 1.44 vdimm. Cooled by a mini cooler. Like the factory cooler. It's pretty good with it's 8 threads.
