As most know went through a few AM4 over the last few months.
98 CPUs used to sub with, or fully tested.
21 Untested
13 Unable to make BIOS
1 Ryzen 5 5600G that refused to do anything above default settings.
Of the CPUs listed below almost all were P-Code 22 with a few 55s as well as 0d & 8, some were tested in 5 MBs (450, 550, 370, 470 & 570, All Asus) and with 3 different kits of RAM as well as a few different BIOSs. Couple would make BIOS with a single stick of RAM but random on which mem channel worked.
1, Ryzen 3 4100
2, Ryzen 3 Pro 5350 GE, two different sellers
1, Ryzen 5 1400
1, Ryzen 5 Pro 1500
2, Ryzen 5 1600 (AE), two different sellers
1, Ryzen 5 2400G, acts dead in a 570 MB, haven't tried it in another MB yet.
1, Ryzen 5 Pro 4650 GE
1, Ryzen 7 1700
4, Ryzen 7 Pro 1700, four different sellers
Another IMC related problem had 4 or 5 make Windows at DDR4 3600 12s (default starting point), once, most of these ended up DDR4 3000 or less and were sub'd with the lower mem speed.
Untested are mostly A-Series, AMD doesn't stamp Pro on the lid, so a Pro series looks no different from a regular A-Series CPU, pay attention to the part number. For a few bought multiple samples and liked the first one tested. Few the seller just flat out sent the wrong CPU.
Bent pins were not uncommon, affected about 8% +/-, hopefully bent during shipping due to bad packaging. Picked up a AM4 replacement socket to test insertion, worked well, got lucky salvaged every one, One packaging method I hated the most was the tape ball approach, soft foam top and bottom cut to die size then completely covered in tightly wrapped tape, bent a few pins myself removing the CPU from the cocoon, cussing the whole time.
Complained to the sellers with some of the first ones, then decided to see how the used CPU market is, let the folks reading this draw their own opinion.
The mem kits used the most were Pats and HOF both won't run the trimmings used with more than 4G in windows, so not y-cruncher 1B friendly. Picked up a kit of G. Skill Ripjaws V, F4-4000C16D-32GVKA, made windows with all 32Gs, DDR4 3600 12s, 1.725v, got some testing to do.
