I have a ABit AX8 rev 1 so single cores only, I bought the board on a whim because it was cheap and in good shape, I was going to use it in my retro gaming PC but then bought a 780a board.
Anyway I know most go for a nf4 DFI board for SK939, but is the AX8 any good for single cores? I have the ram and the other parts needed to bench the platform so I might as well bench what I got, but I was tossing around buying something different like a 775 board and did not want to go out buying a bunch of 939 chips if the board is junk for the platform.
Thanks !
EDIT: Now that I think of it I can just bench this and get a better 939 board down the road if need be lol

No, that board is not good for overclocking. Most Via chipsets are 1:1 so the chipset isn't locked. So you don't get much from them.
Any NForce board for cheap at the bottom end would be a better option.

KT890 chipset is locked. You can overclock but don't expect anything higher than 250 fsb.

No 200-400. I've had up to 300 on VIA, but I had to work for it.

so it looks like I'll have a hard time OCing on the board. sound fun ! regardless I have the board so when I get time I'll bench it.

Not hard, just not a NF4 board.

Not hard, just not a NF4 board. ohh shucks, here I was thinking I wold have a challenge lol. regardless I'll likely pick up a nf4 at some point if I end up like benching the platform
