Went out shooting yesterday with a few buddies. Set up guns in the day and then out lamping in the night off the back of a truck, shooting kangaroos . Managed to nab about 15 of them , good night .

No. It's called pest control George , for friends who happen to be farmers . Kangaroo numbers are exploding and they do a great deal of damage to the farmers crops .
Kangaroo numbers in Western Australia have jumped dramatically in recent years, prompting calls for an expansion of the state's kangaroo meat industry. Western Grey Kangaroo numbers have doubled since 2014 while the Red Kangaroo population has quadrupled.
The problems caused by kangaroo grazing are numerous. First, kangaroos can cause significant damage to crops, including vineyards and orchards. They also compete with livestock for feed, and their grazing can lead to the depletion of essential plant species, reducing the amount of feed for livestock.

I wasn't after an argument , honestly I just thought other people here might have an interest in shooting/hunting/guns etc. It is the "general" part of the forum , talk about anything , apparently.
Australia is a country that is 5,766% larger than Greece with a population of only 26 million. We have to do what we have to do George and we don't really care what other people think , sorry . Anyway , lets talk about BOT and overclocking , I will never bring up hunting again , here .

Didn't realize your neck of the woods was still allowing folks to have long guns, nice looking bolt guns.
CA the same problem with deer and ground squirrels. Idaho has a cycle with large explosions of the population of jack rabbits followed by increases of coyotes. Cows won't eat the hay after the rabbits shit and piss on it and the Sheep folks aren't much on the coyotes.

We can get bolt action rifles here as long as you are a club member or have permission on you friends farm ( My friend as over 6, 000 acres ) the Kangaroos are a major problem for farmers in WA . We also have a problem with camels but 308 is the minimum you can use. One of the rifles we took was a 308 special....good for 25M but that's it It is fun , we wouldn't it otherwise but the main reason is helping farmers out.

Sorry bro , my mistake 357 ....it was the rifle in the picture with under lever
Range was a waste of time.....accuracy about 25M . 243 was my favorite....good for over 250M and good killing capacity. Much better than 223 which I think is a Nato round ?

Rem 6mm fan, though used a 220 swift for ground squirrels but not much fun till their 500M plus.

243 would go close.....nice size and not much recoil. Beautiful caliber , I think the best . Can also drop a kangaroo which is man size at over 300M. The 270 gave too much kick and the 308 (muzzle brake) was only good at less than 150M with accuracy , just too much drop because of projectile size ....killing power goes without saying at that size round, if you can hit it If you like 6mm , have you tried creedmoor 6.5 , they seem pretty good ?
PS.....how can you see a ground squirrel at over 500M At night with lamp , I get probs seeing a 6ft plus kangaroo at over 300M through scopes

Creedmoor case is too small, all so built on a short action, not enough length to deal with the heavier bullets without putting most of it in the case, 6.5-06 might be fun.
16X fixed power scope for the squirrels, don't do any night shooting, frowned upon in most states, just a good way to get the game wardens out and about.

However (Around here) we have guys shooting all the time, sometimes it sounds more like artillery than just a gun and the local sherrif's dept does alot of that too early in the morning at the shooting range too. I'm about a mile from there and sometimes it sounds like a mini-war going on - There is also a prison right across the street from them too and they do their fair share of it as well. I've heard it as early as before daylight before.... I guess they are doing what they gotta do.

Napa county or city law enforcement had a practice range on the site where I had my trailer, had a combat range setup and would train at night, had me kind of excited the first time I heard it, only about 500m from where my trailer was.
Stock on the creedmoor is very interesting, overall, very nice-looking gun. Just brought up the case capacity do to I had I guy I worked with that built a 6.5-284 on a mauser 98 and one of his complaints was the length of the bullets, heavier grain bullets were taking up more room in the case than he expected. Can't beat 6.5 though as good as it gets for ballistic coefficient.

People in "small" countries don't realize the trouble vermin cause , kangaroo being one of the biggest in Western Australia. George , we wouldn't do it unless it is fun . I am not going to spend around $3000 + unless I enjoy it.

Here is one the other guys shot.....leg first then head . My 3 were all clean kills to the head @ around 200M The guy that tagged that , we are talking 600M.
The rifles we are using can take a man out @ over 1 mile .

308 is a good round, depending on the rifle used with it but must agree it does tend to drop being it's a larger round.
I've had the pleasure of shooting a genuine 30-06 Springfield Army bolt-action rifle and it was simply an excellent rifle - I'd love to find one or one like it TBH. Although it was heavy, there wasn't alot of recoil from it and it was accurate too.
I shot it when I was about 11 or 12 years old so if it's weight and the recoil wasn't bad for me at that age, it shoudn't be bad at all for an adult. I also know a 308 and a 30-06 are almost identical with a 30-06 having a slight advantage in muzzle velocity which does help it's hitting power and dealing with bullet drop over a distance - It's not by alot but the difference is there at least.

This picture must be removed. Immediately. It is offensive to the common sense. You can love guns, you can love the Kill, you can love whatever you like but you can't post pictures of such cruelty in the name of " nature control ". When you post something publicly, you must respect that what you love might be offensive and appailing to others.

I don't suppose they let you have firearms in Europe ?
Thank god for the 2nd amendment in the good old USA.
Speaking as an Australian where they still allow us some rights .

Generally speaking, no, firearms are not allowed in Europe. There are exceptions.
Any individual that has elevated security risk, applies for a licence to carry a gun. After very strict examination, 9 in 10 are denied. I always carry a Glock, licenced.
For hunting, there are specific seasons of the year that hunting is allowed and only for specific species. You must join an official hunting club and then you can buy your hunting guns. ALL guns stay at the hunting club and you can't take them home. To be used only when the time comes.
That is the legal way to follow. In the black market anything is possible.
From what we see in the news, every now and then ( extremely often ), a lunatic or more kill a few dozen innocent people in universities and other public places.
We do not have such high level of criminal action here. Yes, a couple of events per year, especially in small villages with old rifles for stupid reasons. " Your goat entered my place and ate the food of my goats "
I would not like to live in the states. Seems that danger is everywhere. Even at a gas station.

Most crimes involving firearms are with unlicensed weapons (criminals). The people that follow the law are not the problem .
