I'm running into issues the past day trying to get WinXP running on two separate boards. Both my NF7-S and DFI LP Ultra 400 post and pass memtest fine with different memory kits and CPUs. I'm using an ISO that I know works fine on my Haswell XP build. The NF7 installs XP but then sits almost to the desktop but doesn't give me a taskbar. The only thing I can pull up is the Task Manager but it won't shut down when commanded. The LanParty board will install XP but BSOD immediately after passing the initial screen. Not sure if both boards are garbage or if I'm doing something wrong.

Use the IDE controller on the NF7-S either with a IDE drive or a IDE to Sata adaptor. The other board probably needs the same thing.

I have all the SATA drivers and used to run the LPB on a WD Raptor way back in the day.
I'll need to acquire a SATA to PATA adaptor to test this. This wouldn't be an SSD issue would it?

Yeah, I also recommend getting an IDE to SATA adapter, it's the most reliable route.
If you haven't already, try loading the Silicon Image 3112 driver during install (F6 prompt). You should need a floppy disc and the correct driver. Pretty sure I got SATA going on my AN7 that way before.

Check the capacitors on the board

SATA works even on SSD. Need SATA driver on F6 during install.

Both boards have new caps on the CPU VRMs. SSDs are an Adata and old OCZ. Both around 256GB. Yes, I have the SATA drivers, which are built into the WinXP ISO I'm using.

Are you using conventional media or trying to install off USB? Installs off USB stick for XP inherently have problems.

Neither of these boards support boot from USB. Using a PATA DVD drive.

Neither of these boards support boot from USB. Using a PATA DVD drive. I was going to say make sure the BIOS isn't set to try and boot the system from a "Removeable" device like a USB drive, esp for the DFI since I've had problems that ran me nucking futs along these lines before with DFI's. Since it is giving you the boot screen or even (Partially) making it into the OS that can't be it, something else is going on and what I refer to in my case was happening with one of my A8N32 boards. It would install the OS just fine but refused to boot the OS copy upon reboot. ATM I can't recall what I discovered about it that solved the problems but if I recall it I'll let you know. Just make sure your drive settings in the BIOS are correct (IDE) for your primary HDD at least since XP prefers that setting overall that I'm aware of.

I'll give it a try on both. Maybe I can try setting the SATA controller to Raid and just designating single-HDD usage? I also have another PCI SATA RAID controller I can put in as well.
