I was wondering if anyone in this forum was a video editor? Since I'm planing on transferring to film school (UCLA/USC) next semester I was wondering if anyone here has a film degree and whether they have any advice initiating a conversation. Since I have trouble talking to people while maintaining eye contact which caused me to be yelled at by my teachers

I'm not a film person myself. I presume you are already taking courses in highschool for it?
Yeah shifting your eyes away in convo makes a person feel you are hiding something, or lying. Just plain jane stop it.
Initiating a convo can be in the form of a question or introducing yourself or interjecting in an in progress convo in a courteous manner.
You asking a question here is like asking a question verbally, do that in a personal convo. Question=Quest for opinion I believe.

Do you know why you do that? Is it a comfort thing? Confidence thing? Doubt it in a topic that adds to confidence?
How do you do if you try to carry a conversation with yourself while looking in a mirror? Do you still look away?

Have you thought about reaching out for therapy to help understand why? or do you likely already know why? I know you said idk... but maybe you have a hunch?
I'm 46 and I still don't know why I have certain ticks. sometimes they are a problem. would be helpful for you to start getting it figured out sooner than later.

I had to go through professional speaking, which was a part of my Airman Leadership course in 2009 while I was in the Air Force, It's not a natural feat for me. Looking at the forehead was 1 technique but in personal communication you also get a lot from body language, tone inflection. Case in point is that we must be hungry enough to earn a position in life by being assertive, proactive. A Psycologist/Psychiatrist/Behaviorist might be able to Help, But it seems it might be fear of embarrassment even...

I was born with a speech impediment, that's why i didn't like talking to people for long periods of time due to people thinking I was an international student. But yeah like that could be part of why of my lack of eye contact

That's a rough spot. But holding on to it won't help, baby step through it. over time it'll get better

I've been improving myself overtime. Back when I created this account in 2020, i was too shy to ask whether i could join the team. But now i gained the confidence to talk to more people
