Here's a video I found from a long time ago. Not my recording though. This was take on the street out front my old house in Huntley IL. Towards the end of the video, you'll see my late 95' Chevy. I miss that truck. The tracks ran along side my back yard there.

Chugging right along.
Trains don't stop till they reach a destination. Be there or you'll miss your ride!

I love them. Steam locomotives are the coolest thing around. The look and sound. And the smell of the fire box. Great video.

Then you should find your way over to Union, next town over and visit the railway museum. I recommend touring all the buildings, you'll be there most of the day. You can go into the workshop also. Lot's of vintage machines and tooling. Super cool. I've been there many several times

I lived there 12 years. We watched Crysler's economy by the trains that went by. Lots of trains is good economy. So hopefully it runs often.
Our house didn't bounce like that. The rails are pretty smooth on that part of the track.

Everything that you can possibly think of that gets transported by rail, goes right past us. We get a lot of heavy haulers, so where I am it is a north/south line. I love when its loaded with military equipment, real state of the art stuff. It might even be less than 200 feet, there is the back lane, a house, street with the tracks.. I didnt actually measure but I can read the writing on the cars and I have shit vision Those tracks have cost me months of my life waiting for the trains to go by.. because its awesome when the tracks are loaded with 3 trains lol.. This is me at 765..

That's good! And bad, yeah, but good. I used to live on the Metra line in DesPlains IL and it was always busy. Back in the late 90s. Took a while, but you sleep through it eventually XD. Nice little bachelor pad I had, studio above the store fronts. The good old days before having kids.....
The UP line we moved from, the conductor volunteers at the Railway museum I told Eddie to check out. He'd pass by, see us out there and toss bags of candies for the kids.
One time he even stopped the engine across the road and gave us some old (but modern) lanterns. Kids got to check out the engine close up. They'd switch at the deans factory quite often. Dean's has since closed their doors at that facility, the UP no longer switches in town. All the old factories closed and gone, Dean's was the last to go.
I remember coming out this way 30 years ago, there was nothing. All the highways where yet still 2 lanes and 55 mph. These days, as busy as some close Chicago suburbs. Gotta travel farther west to get back to the small rural towns.

I remember when I lived in the city back in 1990. There was a huge train that went by, must have taken 45 minutes to an hour to pass along our tracks. It was loaded down with troop transports, jeeps and tanks and cannon. It was for the Gulf War. My Dad took one look at it and said "on no, not again". He said it reminded him of when he went to war in WWII. Even the train locomotives and all of the cars were all in military green camo and army tarps over the train cars. Soldiers visible all over the cars. It was scary on the one hand but I was also feeling a strong sense of pride. That was one bad ass train.

The line ends west of us at a large switching station. So only executive cars out this way.

I wonder how many trains pass by the house every day. I am going to say at least 20.. I know being trapped at the tracks I have spent at least 1 year of my life waiting lol..
