A couple of years the 2700X since I delidded it has been running under a stock air cooler. Despite the de-lid, the temps where not much higher, but always at a high temp. Upgraded to a 5600X, I noticed the cooler had this discoloration. The IHS plate and Core die look to be just fine, no signs of stress, discoloration or baked thermal grease. I'll try and upload a photo..... file too big, file too big, file too big. Fuck me. YAY FINALLY GOT IT!

Needs a good lapping Jon. Start with n.80 wet sandpaper and go to n.320 and then shine it with n.800.
Will be like new.

I didn't bother. Slapped it right on the 5600G, cpu doesn't get much past 60c with fan profile on silent.
Now that's a big difference! That 2700X would happily sit in the 80s on normal fan profile.

Whatever, lol Shame though, 15 minutes work and it would be new again. It could use some love.

It was running the naked die under it?

Brasso can help remove some of that but sanding would be the best way to do it. I use Brasso for touching up my pots, had to do that yesterday because my T-Rex had sat for so long it had "Black Dots" you could literaly feel with your finger. The Brasso all but removed those by using that and a simple paper towel to wipe and polish it with. What was left isn't even worrying about since you can hardly see it, not a problem and the setup once it was done shows excellent cooling per usual when I monitored temps during TIM break-in.

It was running the naked die under it? I put the plate back on, unglued. So, not direct die no.

I should mention that's an opteron (FX Phenom) heat pipe cooler. The fan is clipped on from a wraith Prism however.

PC is in a corner and we have the dogs. And I haven't cleaned it out in a year or more. I'd be willing to bet it's throttled a few times here and there though. 2nd gen, 95c

I have two of them Jon. One is still New In Box. Gonna give it to my sister for a build I'm gonna do for her. Will give her my Dark Rock Pro 4 and I have a Brand New In Box Asus Prime X470 Pro I'm gonna put it on for her with some new ram also. Will probably give her one of my EVGA GTX 1070 FTW2 Graphics Cards too. It's more than she will ever need and it's still a good rounded setup. She doesn't game at all so it's good for her.

I need funding for hwbot my friend! You can cover the 2700X submissions though. I just slapped some down for team hw points essentially at base frequency. I did have it -30c, but that wasn't cold enough to gain clock frequency. Probably an average chip at best.

Is there any difference to benching outside in -30 vs -30 in your doohickey?

One day I'll go for it again with mine, can't say when but I will. I've yet to try the 3950x so that's something I'll need to do once I have an AM4 setup again.

Tell that to my 13700K at 5450mhz Ive got a Supreme HF Cu that you'd love to have.... well it's mounting is for X58 that I have... but 5ghz is a very possible thing on that platform with that water block. It's a beast. Ive always wanted a HeatKill full copper block myself.

Oh sweet! Thats not too bad. I tried -35 air from a window dropping down into the case, it was cooler than that for sure, maybe too cold. I haven't tried this year.. I should while I can.

Pardon me, what were you wearing to survive at -35c ? Jesus, I mean get sick for a cold cpu ? A chiller can do that, comfortably at 20c room temp.
