I'm in the market for a 1.4ghz piii-s. is there any benefit from getting one S-spec over anther ?
Also any tips on deliding them? I'm sure the old tim under the IHS is all dried up by now.

Delid is easy. Razorblade and patience. Mine is bare die.
SL6BY is better. Later stepping.

B0 stepping get's you (on average) a higher FSB (IF board can handle it). To put in another way : Not all CPUs can do high FSB (150MHz+), but B0 is more likely to work with it.

I saw that, would SL6BY be a B0 stepping? or can SL5XL have B0? And is there a way to tell of the CPU is B0 just by looking at them?

SL5XL's are all A steppings. SL6BY's are all B. CPU World has good info.

SL6BY it is! I''m hoping I can hit 1.6ghz stale on my 440bx board, wishful thinking but wroth a shot none the less. I got to find some better memory too.

152fsb is more then doable on 440bx, but will it be stable with my ram and addon cards??? I will have to find out.
Nice OC BTW. 1.7ghz is good for a 1.4ghz Piii-s. Do you recall what you used for ram?

Standard Micron PC133. Just had a couple decent clockers is all.

tualatin: SL5xx = tA1 SL6xx = tB0
cumine SL3xx = cB0 SL4xx = cC0 SL5xx and SL6XX = cD0 (SL6xx its cumine-T, 1.25v AGTL IIRC)
better stepping - better OCing. good luck!
