Calling on the GPU masters here. I have 2 x 8400 GS (G98) only difference between them is one is 256mb and the other is 512mb other then that the same vendor and for whatever reason I can not Sli them. No option shows up in control panel. I know this set up supports sli because I ran my 2 x GTX 460 on it. If I'm not mistaken you can Sli via the pci bridge in stead of the physical ribbon bridge. Cause there are subs on the Bot with this card. This is on a fresh Win7-64bit install, I cant even remember the number of different drivers I tried. Yes using DDU in between each driver try. Vinster had this or similar issue but he never posted what he did to get his working. Can you help me?

You can't SLI cards with different VRAM amounts unfortunately.
Try DifferentSLIAuto it might work but otherwise your out of luck IIRC.

Not sure if SLI is much different then X-fire, but I x-fired two cards with different vram amount. With that said I also tried a %100 matching pair of 8400 GS (G86) and still no SLI option.
What is DifferentSLIAuto? Is that an app?

I would try the sli bridge card to card if you haven't already. I don't remember doing SLI back then without it. 🤔

Well from a quick search, the 8400 just doesn't support SLI.
Search for SLI "hacks" for 8400gs in google.

It simply doesn't have the hardware for sli, or so I had read. There's a little sli chip or something??? Not sure. So some benchmarks may not work in sli mode. Am interested to see if you get it working though. If you do, that's awesome, cause I'm sure there's a way. I saw the subs you mentioned.

I use DifferentSLI. Works good. Use a dedicated drive and OS for this app though. You'll be better off.

Different drivers could help too I have had times before where SLI doesnt show up and a change of driver fixes it. One thing SLI on old cards like that without a bridge doesnt give much of a boost.

Vinster had this or similar issue but he never posted what he did to get his working. Can you help me? I didn't SLI these cards. But did have similar issue in other generations.
In the older generations the cards (Pre 400/500 iirc) the cards had to match 100% for SLI to work. maybe try the 256MB model on the top slot?
now I had posted up a articles on cards that didn't officially support them but did work. I think the 1060's and the 2060's were ones I found. There was a hacked driver that made the SLI bridge over PCIe (like xfire). But I personally had never played with that HW.
iirc, nvidia never officially supported SLI without a physical bridge. It was only though hacked drivers or added software to make it work.
Sorry I can't give you more definitive info.

First couple of attempts with DifferentSLI no good . I have the process down pack, its just the driver issue now. Tring to figure out n find what was the last driver(s) available for the 8 series cards that supported SLI. If the driver dosnt support it then DifferentSLI wont be able to do its thing. So far I see a lot pointing to Win-XP versions, am wanting win-7 version. Ive tried 258.96, 446.14. Any Nvidia gurus know what driver(s) from back then? Just an FYI, I am trying this on Win-7 64bit with a %100 matching pair of 8400 GS (G86)

Frank why are you on the motherboards release bios if it isnt the release bios it isnt far from it. Also look at the PCIe lane assignment in the motherboard bios should be in Advanced second down from top.

Also look at the PCIe lane assignment in the motherboard bios should be in Advanced second down from top. Never paid any attention to the bios version, I can always update it no biggie. I already looked at the PCIe assignment, to the best of my knowledge I set them correctly. Dont quote me on that . What setting(s) in particular are you refering to that I check/adjust?

The more I look into it I find different info on it, there are 5 versions I belive, 1.3, 1.3.1, 1.4, 1.7, 1.7.1 and each with an OS and driver recomendation. One place will say Use version XxX with win-XP with this driver or This version with Win-7,8,8.1 n this driver or this with win-10 n that driver. not one place explanes why or with what generation of cards. With more reading into SLI... Some say the latest chipset to support SLI/X-fire was X58. THAT was confusing since I have newer chipsets running SLI/X-fire just fine. Anyway never was a big GPU/3Dbencher so I dont know all the comon knowledge about it. Its a learning curve, I am detumand to figure it out with you guys help

As far as I can tell Frank, you can modify the inf file yourself.
Anything related to XDevs is wiped clean off the earth. I cannot find a proper modified driver anywhere that looks safe.
But modifying the file might do the trick.

All Nvidia cards after 400 series that have sli capability are supported under win 10 with ribbon bridge.
The question is if the board supports SLI.
If it does, no problem.
