Looking for someone with skill & experience diagnosing & repairing mother boards. If they were ordinary boards I wouldn't give a crap and order another but they happen to be both my DFI LP Ultra-D's Both were working just fine a few hours ago but then no go. They both do the exact same thing. All component's placed on the boards (ram, cpu, psu, hd, gpu) were tested n working good on different mobos (Asus) and even with that I still tryed different ram, cpu, psu, hd, gpu just incase the DFI's were feeling finicky. When I press power they would briefly light up n spin fans but will instantly cut off

Try pulling the 4 pin CPU power cable and see if they fire up then of course they wont boot as there is no CPU power but it will tell you if its a shorted CPU or the VRM is shorted.

Will put them back together and try that. But I know for sure its not the cpu, have it running now on another board I was forced to pull out.

I left both boards since my last post with cmos jumper set to clear & with out the battery, one of the boards still will do the quick on off when I hit the power, the other gives me the 4 lit led. will give em another try tomorrow. Forgot to do the pull the 4pin power cable, will try it tomorrow.

Try this next Frank.
Quote!~
The proper Clear CMOS recovery. Not to be confused with a Normal CMOS Clear.
You can not use a USB keyboard for this procedure. You must use a PS2 keyboard.
You will need your manual to find the jumpers that must be changed.
If you skip or miss any step you must start again since the results will not be valid.
Remove power from the rig by pulling the plug or switching the PSU off.
Move the PC Speaker jumper to the ON position.
Remove the Battery.
Move the CMOS jumper to CLEAR.
Press the Start Button on the case or motherboard to drain the capacitors.
You may leave the board in this condition for as long as it takes to clear the CMOS. If a short 30 second clear or a 15 minute clear doesn't work, try an 8 hour clear.
Plug in a PS2 Keyboard.
Put one stick of RAM in the slot marked DIMM2.
Move the CMOS jumper to Normal.
Replace the Battery.
Press and hold the Insert Key on the Keyboard.
Apply power to the rig by plugging the power in or using the switch on the PSU.
Press the Start Button to power the rig up.
When you hear the BEEP, release the Insert Key and press the Delete Key on the Keyboard.
Once you enter the BIOS set the DATE and TIME then Load Optimized Defaults.
Save and Exit.
Enter the BIOS again and set it up the way you want for your particular rig.

Oh it has definitely worked for me before... If done exactly as stated. The board I have stays on 4 LEDs of death. Too many caps are swollen. It's the only DFI board that I've ever had crap out, but I bought it that way. At one time it did post and run. The Expert I traded Scotty was in like new condition. I felt it wasn't a great overclocking board, I think the chipset was a little short coming on that one. Now sure. The board I'm using now is the last board I have 939. It's been a trooper. Dice no problem. Clocks well. It's an SLI-DR actually. I have a remaining cap to replace, did another one a few days ago. Anyways, I'm coming down to a point here. ‐----------- TLDR, I have the old no posting board that needs a chipset heat sink and recap. If you want it for parts, I'll send it your way. Diagnostics wise, I'd assume Pete could help. Not sure if a PCI diagnostics card would help point the way....

PCI diagnostics card wont do much if it shuts straight down as I said try booting it with the 4 pin CPU power unplugged if it keeps running and dont shut straight down you probably have a VRM problem the vrms on them aint infallible I have burnt and replaced mosfets on a Ultra D before.

Can anyone make heads or tails of this bluescreen? I have been having a hair pulling time trying to get my 3rd Ultra-D running and I keep getting this when trying to install OS.

That is what I thought but the stix I used are proven good on other boards. Crucial ballistix, Kingston BH5, corsair CH5, the list keeps going on the various stix I tryed. I even swapped bios chips, new battery.
As I am writing this I have the board running and notice that now that I have 2 stix in it seems to be going further in the OS install. Was using only 1 stic before. Never was a problem before. Lets see what happens

Yeah its the strangest shit, for 4 days been going through this. something said clear the cmos again but now use 2 stix... Boom its working so far. Anybody have that experience before where 1 stic wont let the board work but 2 will? Well its official... Will not run with 1 stic of ram in any slot, put 2 in and OS install completed @ desktop now.
