I am currently building a R7 5800X rig for my lady. I need a good Mid Range B550 Mobo that is ATX/EATX from Asus or ASRock (under $250). Biostar has only 1 Board (B550 GTA).
Any suggestions y'all?
I don't need WIFI as there is 1Gbps ethernet modem.

Well It's down to AsRock B550 Steel Legend, Extreme 4. Asus ROG Strix B550-A Gaming. All look awesome and have same amount of ports on io shield. But Debug LED or Bios flashback. Hmm. AsRock seems to be on the ball for bios updates though.

at that point, think of the RMA process and make your decision from that.

AsRock seems to be on the ball for bios updates though. I've never had good luck with AsRock. Last board I had was a Z77 Extreme 4. It lost 2 memory slots. Sold it as is and was confirmed then the slots no longer functioned. So that problem is still an on going thing it seems from the other forums I've been witnessing. My personal order of liking... Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, then maybe Asrock and Biostop stops first, so that's last pick.

I have the Strix-F.. been running it since about this time last year. Its been great! Stable as an Intel setup. So kind of boring. Awesome at FCLK and memory clocking, can drive a 5900X without an issue. I have a Z77 OC Forumula upstairs running a 3770K and its an awesome board. That is the only assrock board I have owned, so not sure.. but that one left me with a positive impression. I do like my Strix better though

Not to hijack a thread but looking for advice. Looking to build 2 Ryzen toasters. Need decent mini ITX boards. 1 must have wifi. Both need W7 drivers. As far as I know Gigabyte has the only boards that still have W7 drivers but not sure about this. Will be using 3xxx series Ryzen processors. Suggestions?

I've noticed that alot of the B550 boards have at least 1 PS2 port, you'll definitely need that to do the driver installs for USB and Win 7. As for the "3" series chips, they aren't so Win 7/USB friendly as I found out myself earlier so be ready for all that. I've seen alot of decent boards that fills the bill at the egg for what you are wanting, wifi and so on baked-in with a decent set of ports too. My experience is from working with my X470 Tachi Ultimate board so the thing about drivers may differ here. I do know the little 220GE I've got (So far) has been a royal bitch about Win 7 working with USB, it WILL kill any and all USB driver functionality and it even affects this after you swap the old chip back in as in you still can't get all USB functionality back. Only way to do it is with a completely clean Win install with the old chip. Need to build a little Ryzen toaster myself TBH and run it with Linux.

I can only suggest the Asus ROG Strix B450-I accurately because I have one and it's a bad-ass board. Onboard Blue tooth and Wifi, the wifi works wonderfully, the blue tooth, not so much so. It has the power phases to back any Ryzen chip and has a max EDC of 225a. Which is better than even my brother X570 TUF board.
But, it's B450. So if you need PCI-E 4.0, then this wouldn't be the board to get. And it's not exactly cheap either. I got mine used for like 80 bucks a couple few years ago from OCF. So if you can find one used not abused, it would be a decent board.

Well the Steel Legend was selected over the Strix 550 A Gaming at microcenter. I Invariably got a 5800 that was falsly advertised as a 5800X for $362, well I got $100 back, and the 5800 is only 262, not bad for a higher end 8 core

262 for a 5800X is very good. Get me thinking I should look for a 3800x or something next year to update the 2700X, but if that 5800 keeps going down down down, I'll bite eventually. Still Butt hurt getting a 350$ 2700X when it was released. lol

A 5800 OEM at 262 is a Great Deal.

Just splurged for a MSI B450 board www.newegg.com/msi-b450m-pro-m2-max/p/N82E16813144271?Item=N82E16813144271 to use for a streaming setup. What got me was I can't use the MEG ACE with the chip I've got for this (220GE) because that board doesn't support it - But supports all the other little Athlon chips for AM4. Priced everything out before buying, including a replacement chip and this was the best way to go about things. Since I already have the chip I didn't see the sense in just letting it go to waste - Bought it on a lark sometime ago and it was not being used, practically still new in fact. Prices are just stupid for things and even this board wasn't "Cheap" but not that expensive either and will do the job at least with no further expense. Also has the added plus of having both PS2 ports so if this (Streaming) doesn't work out I can always run it as a low-powered daily with Win 7 if I want, at least USB related keyboard and mouse issues won't stop me from using it. Really been needing a board like it anyway TBH.

All X470 Asus boards ( Crosshair VII ), install perfectly from win7 to win11, since Agesa 1.20. No issues with usb or anything. Straight thru either from usb stick or optical drive. Full support of drivers for all OS. Ps/2 available. Excellent choice for 160-170 USD for full bundle from respectable eBay sellers.
X series has a lot more potential than B series. And an add-on wifi card is 20 bucks.
See my subs. Had a crosshair viii hero dark and did not manage on it anything more than the hero vii.
Just a thought.

Any 4 series board is probrably what's compatable with the most chips across the Ryzen lineup. Obviously an X instead of a B board is what you'd want and the one I'm using to post this is an X470 board. If the one I've got coming in doesn't work out for it's intended role I can swap it with this one, I already know things like the PCI-E lanes for example are better with the X board than what's in the B board. However as long as the B board gets it done I'm fine with it.
As for Win 7 installs you do have to be careful for the reasons I ran into, the little 220GE wiped my USB stuff but there isn't a problem with the 2700X or 1200 chips I've got. It's no secret by now MS got them to sneak some code into the chip's microcoding that kills all USB in Win 7 to force you over to Win 10/11, which is the biggest reason why I'm on Linux now.
They claimed there were issues with the hardware but that's all bullshit. If there were issues as they say I'd seen it by now as well, even in Linux but it all works just fine there.
If they have to outright lie about it, to me that says there is more/something else going on and I just don't trust it. Screw MS and their bullshit.

Bones you are so right. It was all bullshit. Linux for dedicated desktop is really good. My problem with it was that I am a gamer. And sadly, as much as they have touted Linux as being a great gaming platform.........not so much. I will keep windows as a gaming platform but I think I will keep a Linux machine for everything else.
And yes Bones.........Screw MS and their bullshit. I agree.

I kinda screwed up but at the same time it may work out better. The little MSI board has just one PCI-E slot.... And I ordered a PCI-E Wi-Fi card.
Brain-fart on my part due to this, must have two PSI-E slots for the setup I want to work because of the GPU I'll need. I believe however it's at most an inconvenience because I can just take this board and use it instead of the MSI for streaming and run the MSI as the daily. Since it does work fine with the little 220GE that's a plus and it's really "Overkill" for what I do on a daily basis anyway.
Throw in the thing about the MSI having both PS2 ports, I can run it with Win 7 as I was before.
I do believe this way it's going to work out better, big thing for me is to come up with a case for the stream-machine. I do have one but it's kinda large (Lian-Li) that lays down on it's side instead of the traditional "Standing" type and that's gonna make it a task of having enough room out there to set it up. Cramped quarters with not alot of leeway for it and the keyboard and mouse but I believe it can be done.

Is there anyway of Id'ing what memory chips are on a DIMM just from the complete model number on the RAM itself?

Is there anyway of Id'ing what memory chips are on a DIMM just from the complete model number on the RAM itself? Yes, but you'd need everything including the model revision and all else. Just know even with that info, sometimes it can differ so it's not a 100% "Thing" but the list does show a real pattern to it all. warp9-systems.proboards.com/thread/36/i4memory-com-ram-lists

Not sure of the reason you'd need more info of the RAM chips, how about HWiNFO64, memory tab, does it provide more info you'd need?
