So here it goes.. again. Trusty ol' workshop workhorse, motherboard chipset: AMD 770/870 (RX780) + SB750/SB710 +Phenom II, might not cut it for W11. Did not check further today, could be the GPU or some other sh.t

Maybe we should complain to Microsoft for not making Windows 11 compatible to 10-15-20 years old hardware.

lol. yeah, having capable computers as a hobby for decades becomes costly. Industry that does rely on Windows compatibility for many a reasons will toss their stuff anyway within say less than 5 years of use. Just make an order, surely the production and delivery is swift as always, for a price. But yes, some of the security stuff cannot be bypassed, as we all know.

Yep. I'm running W11 upgraded from windows 10 myself. It was quite easy really. No problem, just a little regedit and away we go. F-UCK-TPM. It's a really stupid feature we've ALWAYS HAD AVAILABLE and no one ever used it.I'm trying to understand the push behind it. Makes absolutely no sense at all. See?!?! W11 says it can't run it's self. But it does. Updates just fine. No issues. Benchmate seems to work fine. Most benches seem identical. Games as well. Folding at Home numbers look fine as well. Menus are again being accustomed to. Everything in the center after decades of bottom left at default is kinda nuts. Mac? ehh, cursor goes to the left first by habbit every restart. That hasn't changed yet lol. 3 weeks roughly so far. Pretty stable seemingly. No heavy OC, just the daily. All is goodt so far. EDIT: P.S. - I haven't had a lot of time to play with the OS. Last night maybe 20 minutes taking a look at the different default themes. So if you guys want some screen shots of something, just holla. Attachments:

Also, I forgot to mention that logging into our MS account and doing the Insider program from there instead of your settings on the PC will give you better descriptions of why W11 won't install on your rig. Just a heads up there. I had to give admin rights to one of my primary e-mails which differs from the one I use on my PC. So my PC was basically in kids mode. Same with the XBOX which my kid has never been able to join servers until I had figured this out in my MS account.

ah well, went ahead and put w11 on one of my older rigs, had to do a workaround but fortunately I did not encounter too many obstacles. i5-2500k, intel H61 motherboard, sufficient nvidia GPU. The workaround was that "disable-tpm-check_v2.cmd" and having the w11 .iso mounted then re-run install. Poking around manually in the setup registry did not work, likely outdated info. Feels like there are many new things to explore with this OS version

I just did the update check for the laptop I use for all my on line crap. Didn't like the 2 core sandy and the TPM comment was present, will worry about it when W10 support dies in 2025 or when the folks on the other end of my connections won't talk to me.

Such issues like the above are what's solved by running Linux. No worries about such here at least.
Only thing for me is the distro I'm using (Peppermint) is probrably a dead end now due to it's developer passing away early last year, it's about as good of a distro as it gets. Functions almost exactly like Windows too, that's the best part of it but if this version is no longer being developed then I'll probrably have to go back to using Mint or find another alternative.

I must have gotten lucky. It seems no one can figure out how to update to w11.
Fresh install looks easier with a modded OS installer. Which is the same method as the update.
Like Ubuntu myself. Pretty easy to use. But will always need a windows install somewhere.....

For me, update was a no-go when the two warnings related to TPM and Secure boot was there. After the "patch", a fair warning popped up. In the category : "Proceed at own risk" and so on. Check, and away it went with the upgrade.

The biggest security threat I have is when the kid clicks a link he shouldn't. That wasn't a recent thing, but it's happened. When the kid doesn't have video games for a few days until dad gets to a fresh install.... he learns lessons very quickly.

Upgraded my Ryzen 5 3600 rig from Win10 to Win11.
First thing I had to do was to enable Device Security/AMD fTPM in BIOS, as that was disabled by default. Used Windows 11 Installation Assistant to do the upgrade.
1st attempt failed at 71%, did not check further on this. 2nd attempt, retry with same session, it quit at 71%. 3rd attempt, I made a restart, then started the "assistant"
Upgrade completed, It took a while, but now it is there. Briefly looking around, seem everything that I had in W10 was still there in W11. Using local account.

I'd like to do an ISO install of W11 on a B550, 5800 setup.
Always preferred optical media due to no esd effect like USB drives.

Just snagged a oem dvd from amazon of pro for 128, they are hard to find. I prefer using optical drives due to potential of killing a usb flash drive.

Anyone seen difference in CPU bench results between W10 and W11 on same HW config? E.g CPU-Z "bench CPU".

I really tried to like win11.
Worked with them for a week, tailored them to my liking.
And then I removed them and recovered a Macrium image file.
If I ever want a Macintosh, I will buy one. Not a BAD simulation.

I wonder if you would be able to do with Win11 as you can with Win10... grab a spare drive and pop it in. do a fresh install and use a Win7 key (any x32 or x64) or a Win 8 or 8.1... and see if it'll work and activate... that's what I've been doing. never had an issue...
and for me a non-home key got me a Win10 Pro OS... if I had a PC with a TPM2.0 board I'd try it, but I don't.

It is clunky as hell. I have to figure out why software won't autoplay from the bdxl drive- its set in settings, I haven't seen this bug since W98FE. Vin I may find a 64Bit Pro or Enterprise Edition of 7 and just run that on the Ryz7 5800. W11 is truly clunky, inefficient

I agree, W11 is a bit clunky, for a moment thinking should I revert to W10 on my DD, new install. For the moment, I went into the "Performance Options" to turn off some of the bling-bling,
as to have a bit more rapid response feel of the desktop etc.

Those of us who still use optical Media, W11 fails to autoload it, to fix the issues, a Registry DWORD by the name of NoDriveTypeAutoRun must be implemented and set to 91. Then Go into Control Panel, AutoPlay and adjust everything in there, Rwstart and problem is fixed.
MS totally fucked up.
Amazing enough that DWORD has been around Since W95, it may work on 3.11 and NT of the time.

that is f-up... but reality.. how many new PC's comes with optical drives nowadays? You need to think of the demographic it was intended.. M$ didn't intend for this OS to be released/used on anything except brand new HW.
The only PC I have that I could even think of putting that OS on doesn't have an optical drive.

windows 11? Heck I'm still using 7 on my PC at home. Granted its a rather stripped and shell swapped install. Id switch to 10/11 in a heart beat if it has proper scaling for high DPI modes and did not update when ever it feels like it. I had 10 on it and even with updates set not to auto install via GP it still did and rebooted when it felt like it. Heck at work we have a server running server 2019 and eve with a GP rule that updates only install at 11pm on Sundays it still sometimes installs updates mid day and takes exchange down. ltsb is nice but still has the scaling problems with high DPI modes.
