I was looking/scanning over some Ebay listings for possible 2x1GB or 2x512MB Micron D9 sticks and I came across this kit but I wasn't sure about the OEM IC supplier? TaPaKaH posted some info about Kingston in the XS Forums DDR3 thread here: www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?285767-DDR3-IC-thread&p=5234967&viewfull=1#post5234967The identifiers for this particular OEM are the number 12 and the letter K... I know it is not Elpida, Hynix, Micron, Samsung, Nanya, or Qimonda. I was thinking that this might be Powerchip/PSC??... Some other makers left not listed that I can think of are ProMOS or Infineon? The kit I was first looking at was dual ranked (64Mx16) but I've also seen other sticks/kits with higher density using both single and dual ranked specs (128Mx8 and 128Mx16) 1X1GB and 1x2GB sticks. I also found this HyperX DDR3 kit with the same IC identifiers... A 2x4GB dual ranked (256Mx16) kit.

The DDR3 kit is either Nanya or PSC-X. Neither will clock that great.
The DDR2 kit, based on the model and serial numbers, and the voltage, I thinking Infineon, but not completely sure.

The number 12 shown towards the bottom of the label on the outer clam shell packaging is a code for IC manufacturer... 02 is Elpida, 08 is Micron, 16 is Samsung and 32 is Hynix. I'm not sure about the numbers for the other IC makers? The 4th letter of the vertical code to the left of the module sticker is also a code for IC manufacturer... E is for Elpida, M is for Micron, S is for Samsung, H is for Hynix, N is for Nanya and Q is for Qimonda. I was trying to decipher what the letter K on the module stickers might stand for which also corresponds to the number 12 on the lower left clam shell label. If the clam shell label showed KTC (Kingston Technology Center) than the K might represent various IC makers but I'm thinking that the DDR2 and DDR3 kits are both using IC from the same manufacturer? I don't think I've ever seen a HyperX DDR3 2x2GB kit (or sticks) with PSC? All the "high-bin" 2GB sticks of Hyperx that I have are Elpida. Here are some more samples photos.... The sets with stock voltage of 2.2 or 2.3v's are D9's, about the best you can get for DDR2. Same IC's you find in Ballistix DDR2 sticks and what's preferred. As to the others I can't say but I do know higher rated DDR2 sets by voltage tend to be D9's.

As to the others I can't say but I do know higher rated DDR2 sets by voltage tend to be D9's. The good Micron D9 chips (GMH, GKX, and GTC) were only made @64mb density per chip. Only two kinds of sticks have them 1Rx8 64MB (single sided) 1x512MB stick or 2Rx8 64MB (double-sided) 1x1GB stick. Which means as kits you will only find them as a 2x512MB kit or a 2x1GB kit. Any stick with 128MB density chips will not be the good clocking D9 IC. No 2x2GB kits or sticks as well as 1x1GB sticks or 2x1GB kits with 1Rx8 128MB (single-sided) will have them. Before Micron came out with those good square shaped D9 chips they had an earlier revision of D9 IC with a wide body nick-named or referred to as the D9 Fatty. They were taller rectangular shaped IC that looked kind of like a regular DDR IC. The good versions were D9 DQT and D9 DQW. Micron also made a lower bin D9 GTC. These chips rather quickly went EOL and were no longer available and were replaced by the later square body D9 IC. The D9 Fatty was also only made @64mb density IC...
