Found a H67 Combo last week for €50 euro 2600k 8gb RAM , Asus P8H67-M. thought it was a decent deal.
Decided to finaly mess around with some newer stuff since SB stuff has seemed to come down in price Didnt think much of 2nd gen + with 2nd gen basicaly killing Bclock OC and limited unlocked chips.
But anyway bought into Sandy Bridge reguardless. I know nothing about the platform so can you guys fill me in i have a few questions. i am aware that 3rd gen work on 2nd gen boards but i dont have intrest in 3rd gen at the moment.
Chipset - what board am i best buying P67 or Z68? will most likely be from Asus or Gigabyte i dont feel i get the true potential out of any other brands. Idealy full size ATX with overkill VRM and onboard power. Have been looking at P8Z68 Deluxe from asus.
RAM - Which ram is ideal? i heard SB is senstive to voltage. I Have some Decent dimms. Elpida Hyper , PSC-X , Hynix MFR , Hynix AFR
CPUs - Already have the 2600K (L040B907) Batch any good? , going to order a 2500K also. anything else worth getting maybe some i3s or celeron or pentiums for a laugh? there cheap enough
Thanks guys.

Z boards are the only real OC boards. Anything 'K' Hypers, period.

For 2D the P67 will do but the Z68 is the better one all around. I had a P67 Maxumus IV Extreme (MIVE) board that was really good but I, like Mr. Scott suspect you'll be doing some 3D stuff. The Z68 in that case is the better one to go with.... And it's just as capable with 2D stuff too.

For 1155 I see no reason to not just get a Z77 board if your looking for the best, there's more to choose from and they typically have better efficiency than P67/Z68. I'd only go for the older chipsets if I could find a top of the line board for a good deal.

I don't know about the different 2600K steppings, but they should do 4-4.2GHz on stock volts. 4.4-4.6GHz once you start goosing the voltage, maybe higher. Just crank that multiplier. Sandy Bridge was known for a 'weak' memory controller. 1600MHz was no problem, but 1866 gave me issues. But I'm running 4 sticks of double sided memory, too.
I went with a Z68 over the P67. Z77 adds integral USB3 support, 4 ports.

entilzha = Voodoo Rufus on other sites. He is an old schooler like most of us, and most welcome here.

I take it him and Witchy have "Voodoo danced" together before? It's great to see someone like him pop in and certainly more than welcome to hang out here for as long as he would like to.
