I've had a few scan tools through time.
Well with automotive, most scan tools do ECM read only.
Which is fine if you just need some engine codes.
Well, with recently trying to diagnose my wifes car, I've discovered a standard scan tool just doesn't cut it anymore. And probably hasn't in a long time....
Most of my cars are 2003 and older. We purchased a 2010 Chevy Equinox and it has all the bells and whistles, it's an LTZ model.
So traction control, stability control, yaw sensors and shit, ABS usually pretty reliable, restraint system, and of course the transmission.
All of these modules I cannot scan with any of my scan tools. Some years back I bought a decent one that gave full descriptions with the code. Cost 165$.
Well, TLDR, I purchased a new scan tool.... And it's pretty badass.
It's a Matco Maxlite.

All I can say is that this thing is pretty badass.
Operate blend door actuators??? Yes it does that!
Pull codes from any and all modules on the vehicle?? Yes it does that.
Dual core tablet based screen on android?? Yes it's that too!!!
Can I take screen shots and email them to you?? Fuck yes I can!!
Oh man. I cannot describe the feeling to have a decent diagnostics tool. Couldn't do it any more. I'm diagnosing more and more vehicles the past few years from friends and family. And it sucks when you have to turn them to a shop and I could have made the moneys instead.
I hope to have more specific input later, I've only have used it twice.
Do have a project car that has just about ALL the dummy lights enabled. Air bag, ABS, CEL....
Will update another time, So far it's the best damn scan tool I've spent any money on.
