Never received a renewal notice for my car registration this year. When I was expecting it it was a no show generally 3 months before. Daughter came for a visit had a few other things come up and generally forgotten until one day I was walking back from the mail box and happened to look at my rear plate and realized I was about a week and a half past due. Promptly paid it when I got in the house which had late payment charges as well as a service charge way beyond anything I've seen before to use their on line payment system.
This morning when I got the mail I noticed an envelope with a DMV return address though not the correct size usually associated with tag replacement. Upon opening it it was a bill for registration fees plus a larger late fee charge. I'm pissed!! Just happened that the DMV information I was expecting was also in the mail retrieved, (I generally only get my mail out of the mail box once a week). The actual bill was post marked 3 days after the tag replacement mailing. So now I waiting to see if I get another bill.

Our plate stickers are 161$ now.
For a sticker. 3/4" x 1" sticker.
You know how many stickers I can buy for my kids with 161$?
They do this shit on purpose so they can collect late fees.

Recently had Sirius XM try and scam my wife. In conjunction with the dealer I might add. XM radio stops working in the car. 2010 equinox. Wife calls XM, they said call the dealer, they did something. So I took over from there. I noticed the bill had a serial nunmber which can only be matched to the car's radio. Like a mac address for the hw or something. With some research, I've found that you cannot change the number to the stereo unless you physically remove it from the vehicle and replace it with another stereo. We did none of that. Called the dealer. Dude in the service department was adamite the stereo Antenna was faulty, bring it in and we'll replace it. He's seen it a dozen times. What, come in with an over the phone diag because you've seen it a dozen times before?? Hmm, well sir, I'll have to talk to my wife about an appointment. SO, I was just bullshitted pretty good there. Called XM. Hey, this stereo, the number doesn't match the bill ID online. There will be a 15 dollar charge to install the correct number. What after I paid the bill? Ma'am you must be mistaken, we nor the dealer can change the number on the Bill. It does not match the channel 0 ID number of the stereo. She "asked her supervisor" to wave the fee and installed the correct number pretty promptly. She didn't even put me on hold.
It's a fucking scam. It's all bullshit.
Everyone is out trying to make an un-honest buck, including our government.
My last ticket, failure to yield at a stop sign which I contested in court cost me over 300$ with the state and county fines. The ticket it's self was worth a mere 20$. I made a complete stop, then proceeded. Had to stop while the guy in front of me decided to gun in front of me. The dude down the road had plenty of time to see my Red ass pickup and stop. But he was on his phone. He lies on the bible, saying I had just pulled out in front of him while he was doing 55 miles per hour. Well, the judge bought the lie, I got my wallet extracted for a lot of coin.
There's nothing fair anymore. Gov, wants money, they just take it.

Thankfully drivers license here is, at least last I checked, $84 for five years. Unfortunately, we pay for it in different ways, with insurance being upwards of $3k a year for a Corolla ...And so many wonder why I don't have a vehicle - it adds $500 a month in costs! (insurance, fuel, maintenance spare money fund, etc)

License is only expensive for me because mine is commercial and I have a lot of endorsements.

License is only expensive for me because mine is commercial and I have a lot of endorsements. Oh yeah, that would probably do it. Here it's surprising that you can operate commercial vehicles on "just" a Class 5, but then again, I drive a van, so they only really care if the insurance is commercial. I'd suspect if it was vehicles like you operate, they'd want me to have a class 4, 3, or even class 1A/Z (can't remember if air brakes is A or Z), which does indeed cost a noticeable amount more, and then there's the physicals too. Eventually I want a Class 5/6 license but I haven't bothered to look into acquiring a motorcycle yet, nor would I have anywhere to safely store one where I currently live.

Still have my CDL and it's class "A" meaning (Here at least) airbrakes and a trailer, I have no other endorsements like tanker for example with mine but could get it if I really wanted to. I believe the standard applies nationwide (US) since CDL's are supposed to cover all that and they use these requirements as a standard due to federal regulations concerning such - I could be wrong but I think that's how it is.
I do know there are specific things, airbrakes being one of them that determines the classification of the license and that automatically makes it an "A" whether it has a trailer like a semi does or not. A "B" class has no airbrakes and no trailer but if it has a trailer like a semi does that bumps it up to an "A" class anyway even if it has no airbrakes.
If I were to drive one of the BIG rock hauler/pit trucks I used to drive in the quarry I worked at on the road, that would be an "A" class period, air-over-hydraulic brakes with those and can be trickier than airbrakes alone until you learn how to use them. Of course those you'd hardly ever see those on the road, they are just too big overall but they are capable of road travel. They even have all the required stuff like brake lights, turn signals and so on they'd need to be "Legal" for road use because sometimes to get them where they have to go, they just drive them to wherever and they can run up to about 60 MPH if they have to. It's been awhile since I've had to think about all that but that's what I remember, things undoubtedly have changed since I last drove one but alot of it I believe is correct.
