Hi Guys not sure if this any use to anyone but i recently discovered how to Hard Mod Geforce 3/TI 200/T500 Cards into any Geforce 3 Series card you like. may be usefull for benchmarking or testing chip/mem bins as ive had good sucess with ref geforce 3 cards clocking high. trouble is whatever you do HW ID will always be what the card originaly was even with bios flash. Geforce 3 uses Resistors to detirmine HW ID.
Successfuly Modded a Refrence Geforce 3 To A Ti 500 Simply move Resistor R216 to R217 HW Id will change and now will show as a TI 500 In windows. Works with Refrence PCB have not tried any third party PCBs but i imagine its the same or simular.
Benchmark pic. All you need to do now is bios edit clocks or flash any Ti 500 bios you desire. some will work better than others.
have yet to try this out on my Geforce 3 Ti 200 but i think this should work. Compared the card to a real Geforce 3 Ti 500 , 3 resistors will need to be moved. R219 To R218 R216 To R217 R229 To R228 The Cards

What's the gain in changing what the card looks like in the OS?

What's the gain in changing what the card looks like in the OS? Vin Not really any gains but bragging rights and to get a cheaper flagship card as I've constantly been looking for a Ti 500 at a good price and wasn't able to find one. However before I did the mod I had a Ti 500 bios flashed and was forcing the Ti 500 driver via device manager, some benchmarks such as 3dmark would come back with a error that something was wrong with the config and score is invalid. Doing this mod gets past this and all results are valid.

And I suggest you specify mods done in the comments so other users or moderators don't get confused.
Yeah, the resistor ID mod is old enough to be forgotten by almost everyone. 17-18 years old I assume.

Yeah understood. i did this more of a cost saving measure as people want big bucks for the real TI 500 was just a cheap and easy way to get one for cheap and have it show up in the OS as a 500. More for my GPU collection than benching

Is it possible to mod a GeForce 3 TI200 to a GeForce 3, the non TI version using this? I have been looking for that because I know about the resistor mod but finding information nowadays is hard and from ti200 to vanilla GeForce 3 I cant find anything.
Reason Im asking is because one can flash a GeForce 3 to work in a Mac, but you cant flash and make a ti200/500 work, only the standard GeForce 3.
And I only have GeForce 3 ti200 cards so thats why Im asking, somewhat tempted to upgrade my Mac from GeForce 2 MX to GeForce 3.

I dont know who made this card, at first glance it locked like an ASUS but the fan was not right, I have had a few ASUS back when. It do not look reference ether.
Looking at that image there tough it looks very much the same, so then the question is, what resistors to change.

all that needs to be moved is R219 TO R218
should work but do at your own risk
i moved r218 to r219 to make my card a TI 200-500

Obviously on my own risk XD
Thank you btw! Im gonna try it later, if I recall this particular TI200 clocks like garbage so probably gonna have to mode the Mac Bios for the TI's default clocks so will have to look in to that to.
But some stress testing at GeForce 3 clocks first will show if that is needed or not.
I have another TI200 but it has 500Mhz ram and is reference and its in a much faster PC better suited to exploit that card plus its seems 100% references so there are voltmods for that card that are simple to do. Idk for sure if changing the ID resistors will make it post in a Mac with the GeForce 3 Mac firmware, could be something else at play to. Someone claimed there was some change to the TI versions to the GPU but I never heard of that before so idk.

Idk if I should have created a new thread BUT I tested out the Hardware ID mod, works fine the card was detected as a GeForce 3 instead. Then I flashed it with a Mac firmware as planed and it dose in fact WORK! Drivers accept it as a vanilla GeForce 3 so this hardware mod plus mac firmware flash makes it possible to run the ti cards in a Mac despite the common opinion that this do not work. The card did artifact a bit, I knew the memory was crap on this card so did the Vmem mod on it to and that solved that problem, I would suggest getting a ti200 with 500Mhz ram, they are apparently pretty common and I do have one but its being used in a PC.
I figure this mod goes hand in had with the Geforce3 Mac firmware flash, been looking for that my self and now I know it works so if anyone else wants to do the same I figured why not share it.

I ended up modding it back to ti200 and flashing back the original bios. The memory could just not cope with high settings in Halo, seems to be a GF3 killer game for that, FSAA artifacted.
So I swapped it for my Gf3 ti200 Winfast with factory installed 500Mzh ram @400mhz and that works fine at 460Mhz ram speeds, was tested to 525Mhz in windows 98.
So yea flashing ti200 cards with gf3 bioses one has to make sure the ram can cope with it.

May be due to the bios and not the card try modding the cards stock bios. some ti 500 have different memory timings hence why its artifacting

its a ti200 and the ram sucked in windows on the first one. Running another ti200 with the mod that has 500Mhz ram that did 525Mhz in windows. But yeas timings could effect the ram, pretty sure thats why my geforce 256 sdr that has 200Mzh ram can only do 166Mhz at the most in ut99, suspect it runs cas2 instead of cas3 in its bios.
But I dont have a ti500 so dont see what that has to do with anything.
