I have this HD 6870 Hawk pcb that someone send me along with something I bought a year ago. Always had it sit on display and I never knew if it would even still work. After all it was a gift without a heatsink, which made me think it was dead or had some serious problem that the person sold the heatsink without the card. Now while watching buildzoids video on what things you can measure with a DMM in order to check for shorts I had a go and found nothing wrong with it. 12V to ground was fine, no short. Fuses are intact. VRMs seemed ok (2,6 Ohms for core, ~16 memory and 80 on a choke that I can only assume as PLL/aux stuff). Only trouble I don't have a heatsink for it. I grabbed some crude aluminium heatsinks from a dead plasma TV pcb and used a string to hold it in place: Card has picture output, no artifacts. Still have to test it with a driver to see if it is actually fine at default clocks but if it turns out good I wonder what options I have to acquire a heatsink.

Thanks for the input, I'm looking around already. I just wondered if maybe there is an aftermarket cooler like the Arctic Accelero. But that one is EOL and only fits the reference pcb, not the hawk.
Maybe one day I will find a dead hawk for a decent price.
