Man I am happy I waited... I'm sure you guys have heard the nVidia releases...
so a RTX 3070 > RTX 2080Ti... that's just a start....
Cuda cores are near doubled... like, if you're a folder/cruncher.. this will be insane...
I'm going at least 3080... I have the funds and this will be my 5 year performance build i might just go 3090... I expect the Canadian price for the 3080 being about $1500CAD, and the 3090 would be $2400CAD.
The decision will be based on gaming comparison benchmarks that get released in the near future.
My 27" 165hz 1440p display will be replaced with something 4K (Son will get an upgrade). I was going to stick with my C6H MB but with my with GEN4 PCIe and updated storage... I may as well upgrade that too....
my 1300W PSU will get replaced... it's 4 years old and likely tired with the shit I've done with it... and my Bench table PSU needs an upgrade... I'm going to go full retard... Budget is flexible at around $5500.... I got wood....
anyone here upgrading?

These cards are powerful, but way beyond my price range.
I picked up my VW Jetta for 500 bucks, the card is more than that haha.
I'll have to wait on this unfortunately.

I'm not buying one, esp when I have a pair of Rad VII cards onhand. Those for my use are more than good enough.

games i'm playing are dipping in the 30-50fps sometimes. average is 60-70 at 1440p. but I'm getting a small inheritance from my mom's passing last year. I use a PC near daily so I figure to go balls out. it'll be the last PC I build for at least 5 years.

I got the beat up 95 pickup and a used ass couch. In the mean time he rehab the house remodeled new windows a Corvette and a new pickup truck. Supposed money for kids college, which my oldest is on year two, not a word and not a dollar. When gramps died, he said I'd be taken care of. That didnt happen. My father and his sister took all the money I got nothing and was told it wasn't my parent. In the mean time, my dad has bought 3 houses and my aunt on vacations every two or 3 months. Even though I moved gramps into the assisted living ho.e and my wife taking him to the doc, we got shit on for it. I expect nothing from anyone. So I'm glad your family is taking care of you. That's good.

I'm sorry you got shafted, I was fortunate in that department...
I'm the responsible one in the family, when my Dad passed last year, figuring everything out was on me. my older brothers didn't have a clue what to do. My mom was named executor in the will, I was the alternate, but she had early-onset dementia. Hospital told us she was near failing the cognitive test. They saw her moments of clarity as we did, so we setup myself as the Power of Attorney (medical and financial) as that wasn't a thing when my parents created their wills, my brothers were there as well. no secret shit happened, everything was on the up. Sold everything. moved my mom closer to me and my brothers (6hrs from her old home) and myself and my oldest brother took care of her.
I took 5 months off of work last year to take care of everything. I still haven't taken a penny for that.
then my mom dies in Nov last year... was easier as we already cleared everything and was a short process and being local, my brothers helped this time.
I will get my executor costs when we settle everything in a few weeks. I'm out a small 5 figure amout that I pulled from my credit line to get buy, that is getting paid back, then me and my brothers are getting an equal share and that's it except for a small tax hold back that we split next year...
I'm a believer in karma, and I'm a believer that is you piss off a soul you will be haunted for the rest of your days.
$ doesn't removed or take care of a lifetime of guilt.
so all the $ I'm getting is paying off my car and going in to the house for renos and to fix some things, I'm using ~$5K for this PC that I'll sit in front of for the next 5years that my mom and dad bought me. And I'll think of her and my dad every day I'm in front of it.

That's good man. My mother passed away ten years ago. I had the support of a few select friends and family including most of the guys here on the team. I've had more support from you guys over the years than from most of my family (believe it or not) while most of my struggles are mine, we all have some. Rather have the loved ones that passed than the money. For example, Gramps and I shared many good hours together, and I'll take that to the bank instead. But that's cool Vin, I can't wait to see you build the rig. Gonna be top notch for sure.

I'm hesitantly excited. I'm waiting on real numbers to come out because Nvidia has been known to cherry pcik their info to make the marketing slides look even better. That and I don't have the cash atm anyways, aaand I buy third party cards because they have beefier VRM setups, not to mention usually have quieter coolers too.
But if the slides somehow are true, and it isn't just at 4k, but we also see that nice 2x boost to performance at 1080p and 1440p through most games and settings, I'll be thoroughly impressed.
Thankfully, with the announced price of $799 USD for the 3080 I'm hoping the cards here in Canada won't be any higher than $1,100 CAD -that was a tough pill to swallow last generation, but the 2080's were a good step up from the 980 and 980 Ti's we had (hubby had regular, I had Ti)

^ I agree and that's why I'm waiting until Nov to buy. but it'll be hard to wait. There are leaks out now for performance and at 1080p the 3080 is only 20%-25% better than the 2080Ti, the 3070 was equal and sometimes less than the 2080Ti at that resolution... at 1440p the 3080 was about 25-35% better.. it wasn't until you get to 4K resolution is when the 3080 shined and then gave you the 50% performance boost that was talked about over the 2080Ti.
everything that's been shown off is the 3080, I can't wait to see what the numbers are for the 3090. the 17th and 24th can't happen fast enough....
Oh, and all CPU' will bottleneck.. lol HAHA..... That's a funny as hell video...
if you have 3 min, it's a fun watch.. lol

1440p performance is definitely something I'm curuous about, but I'm also kind of paying attention to 4k as well, because I'm getting back into surround gaming...

Jay's 2 cents put out a compare of the FE vs an EVGA that was $50 more.. no performance or temp change... FE's are looking good.

Yeah, well no, that's not what I was talking about. I'm talking about everyone in line at Best Buy this morning to walk in and find them all sold out. Meaning they where not available for pre-order and also not stocked in stores.
