Not so much airtight as it helps to keep condensation under control.
Combined with the inferno I can bench for hours, do a quick swap of the CPU if I want and go again.
Did just that after getting the validation for more points with other chips.

I let it drape as low as I can to help keep any air from circulating around the socket area and since it's a Shamwow it absorbs any water that tends to appear, either from condensation or runoff from the top of the pot when the ice melts.
