I rebuilt a secondary PC of parts lying around. Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P v. 5.x, FX-4300 black edition. Overclocks well, but have not figured out why upping the NB frequency does not seem to take. I currently have HT and NB set to 2400 MHz, however, when I look with CPU-Z and HWINFO64, NB frequency reads 2000MHz. What gives? It posts at HT set to 2600MHz and NB lower. If I set both to 2600 will not pass POST.

Most FX chips can only run up to maybe 2500mhz stable NB. (give or take). So 2600 on that board, probably just won't work.
Have you tried to increase the chipset voltage (NB not CPU/NB) yet?

yes, it is a simple board, perhaps not expecting it to run NB at 2600MHz. Tried upping the NB voltage a notch, but will need to check temps with load etc. Anyway runs good at HT 2400. Just wondering why the NB readout is 2000MHz while BIOS confirms NB is set @ 2400MHz (12x200).

Its a Gigabyte board I have got a 990FXA-UD3 that the NB speed wont go over 2200 no matter what I set it will rise up if you raise baseclock though. My 990FXA-UD7 doesnt have that problem.

OT: Had a Kill-a-watt meter plugged in, tried the "Stress CPU" option in CPU-Z, the rig pulled a steady 180W! vs 80W+ in random usage, balanced power scheme. CPU clocked at 4.4GHz
HT 2.6, CPU 4.5, DDR3 1866, Cineb r20

This is the case I am using with this motherboard. At first was unsure whether to bother at all because of HP usually using proprietary case fp connectors. Saw online someone used a similar case with another giga uATX Am3 board, figured I take a chance on this. What do we know, all connector headers match 100% with the case default fp and card reader&USB cables.

I have the same situation and questions as in the thread linked below. I have not been doing much tinkering with the FXs we have, but made me thinking about to compare results and settle for either one, HTT clock and/or multiplier. I know this setup work fine with 4.5GHz, multiplier OC and gives good result on RAM OC.
I have put heat sinks on VRMs but the NB is very hot, will need to see if I can find better solution for that.
This PC is not for gaming but multimedia & streaming use.
EDIT: So I turned up the clock to 240Hz to get an even number on NB, HT and RAM. Had to turn up the vcore a couple of notches.

I always ran the Bus clocks in 1/4's in example, 225 - 250 - 275 -300 ect. Would dial in Mushkin Redline 9-10-9-27-37 @ 1000mhz. HT is good for 3ghz no problem. Keep the NB at 2.4ghz. (stock is 2.6ghz)
But one of the things about these chips are they tend to be low leakers. Pretty average 3.8ghz. At least what I had seen through the years. I bought mine new and froze it right out of the box. It never saw ambient while I had it.
Glad to see you are actively cooling the VRMs and NB. Smart idea.

Shrimp whats the idea behind running the bus clocks in 1/4s? Each 1/4 would set the memory divider up so I could run the memory at 1000mhz clocks. I cannot remember exactly which dividers any more. That was a long time ago lol.

Had to reinstall windows fresh, some kind of funky activity running, disk very busy (was an old install with a nvidia motherboard) I settled the CPU at 4.7GHz, air cooled, stock cooler. Changed the RAM kit to a set of Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 White that was not in use at home anymore. Now it runs as an overclocked FX-4300 might run in daily use, but this RAM does not take OC well with this board. I might have expected a bit higher limit, but above 1760MHz it is already flaky. Tightened the timings instead, and that went OK, while using AIDA64 as help in reference.

That's about right. FX doesn't really care for ram speed. 1800 is about it, and that's iffy.

Swapped the stock cooler to a LC-Power LC-CC-95. Yes it is budget, but this is old stuff so not much point putting much money into it.
