Don't know if this goes here, is a PC tool.
Just switched from AVG to PC-Matic for virus protection and liking it a lot, not a hiccup on my W7 connection to the outside world on install and first scan.
Have two options for purchase that I was given, $50 for 5 computers a year or $150 for 5 computers for life.

Been a Malwarebytes guy since they first came out. Never had an issue with anything. I used AVG up until Norton bought them and their software became shit. So Since then I've been using Malwarebytes as well, but I haven't bought software. I install, scan, fix, uninstall repeat if required.
I've been thinking of getting the real-time protection but in reality I need it for 9-10 PC's... would get expensive quick.. looking at near $200/year.. for something I might use once ever few years?
I have and keep the Windows Defender going on older PC's and on the Win10 ones have protection, it's just slow.
My work uses Kaspersky, it's pretty good. I don't have any real issues with that software.

The realtime protection is very good. This is what I sell to customers when they ask about AV. I usually just do what you do. Wife's desktop runs the paid package... only because I got a $19.99 lifetime deal for one unit.

If you can get a discount on it ESET is good. Remember Malwarebytes is NOT a replacement for an antivirus!

I admit, I´m a bit lazy in terms of AV-software. I used to have F-Secure on my laptop and main desktop but in the 3 years I´ve used it it never had to protect me from anything. Before I never had anything happen either so I figured I´d cheap out on this. I hate the performance impact these things have, even if it´s a small one.
Instead I protect myself by having my valuable data backed-up in cold storage and I keep private stuff or critical passwords analog.

As long as you're not going to shady sites for obscure porn, or game crack files (like the old days) then you're pretty much covered. don't open emails attachments you were expecting.. then you're good.

So it seems that version 3 has added a little more in terms of active protection but for the most part it has traditionally been retroactive. Don't get me wrong for the average consumer it is enough but it is not exactly anti virus in the traditional sense. What is suggested is you run an active antivirus along side of malwarebytes. I personally only run clamav which is not amazing but have never had a problem with any malware. If you really want to be secure you would run something like malwarebytes, active anti virus and something like rkhunter

Ya, I know I get it. I was teasing you a bit. After v3 they added it, v4 is apparently better... I don't know. I just get it when I have an issue.

Comcast offers a free version of Norton Security. I'm using that with Malwarebytes Premium Lifetime. I feel well protected here.
