Good thing Jon that I sold both my lightnings for 1250 Euros each. Had paid directly to MSI Europe ( wholesale price ) - 1050 each.
RTX 3000 - code named Ampere.
It is not going to be an easy marketing task for the gamers. Should Nvidia decides to raise price more, I suspect a failure in sales.
Prices of really strong RTX 2080 Ti's are borderline at 1400 Euros now, and I can't imagine a further raise.
Unless, with a bold move, like Intel did with the HEDT processors - cutting prices by 50% - we see something similar.
I am on the sidelines - AMD might have some interesting proposals.
This kind of ultra expensive cards must be bought, benched to hell and sold immediately. Max 5-6 months time. Otherwise loss is huge.

I'm good with my 2080, and upgrades this year are focused on other, more important quality of life things, like new desk chairs, monitors, a new bed, and most importantly of all, a gigantic 8' diameter (3' thick) bean bag chair full of shredded urethane foam.
That and I'm still kind of bitter about having to have spent sooo bloody much of a mid-tier card.
If I do buy more computer parts, I'm upgrading mobo/cpu/ram to Ryzen 3900X, because that would be a nice boost for various hobbies I have...

Either way, I hope this drives 1080 prices down even more. I won't upgrade until after 3080 releases for sure.

I'm also hoping that it's an actual proper upgrade, not one that still barely has any game support for the new shiny thing they came out with.

People will buy them. It won't really matter. As long as there's performance increase, there's a market for that.
Frames per second at 4K 120hz I believe is the quest no?

That seems to be the quest some aim for. I could care less about maximum frame rates if average and lowest 1% are in the gutter. Gutter is where my mind is, my frame rates need to be good, doubly so since I'm upgrading to ultrawide 3440x1440 in a few months, and it'll be a 144Hz display... Or I'll go full nutball, and get three 27" 1440p displays (also at 144Hz refresh) and get back into surround, but we shall see about that. I'm kind of liking not having to do the various dances to keep everything happy while surround is enabled... Elite:Dangerous would be GLORIOUS on three 27" display at 1440p though... As for the card, I want it to give at least a 35% increase, but I especially want to see things go back down to the previous tiers. $1700 CAD (or more!) for a 2080 Ti is "the fuck are you trying nvidia" territory. Even Titans weren't that expensive a generation ago...

If my opinion is worth 2 cents, then here is the history of an absolute 3D lunatic bencher - 10 years in a raw.
Money spent 40.000 $$$ Money got back by selling 32.565 $ Inventory < 2000 $
Mathematical loss of 5000+ $.
STOP. Finished. Only 2D benching and maybe some old cheap cards modded for my chiller ( 100-150 $ max ).

I was speaking strictly about gamers buying the new gen cards to drive older cards costs down.

I hate that " Black Leather Man " with that arrogant expression on his face.
He is telling us - " Here is the new super duper vga - I am going to fuck you and you will enjoy it "
And everyone ( me first of all ) running after him to get fucked. Lol

Huh. Rumours are already starting to come out that Ampere is 50% faster/more powerful than Turing, and it uses less electricity. Guess we shall see how it all plays out once they come out. Still really REALLY hoping they get their heads out of their asses regarding pricing though..

I have a 2080ti now and 4k 60hz on some titles is impossible with Max settings so I'd like to see what the 3080ti does hopefully as some said it's not 50% increase in raytracing performance and actual non RTX stuff but we shall see
