Ok, so there is a good deal at amazon right now. I can get a 2600X with cooler for 145 shipped, a 2700 for 170 shipped, or a 2700X with cooler for 200 shipped. Sensible me is thinking 2600X, Reckless me is thinking 2700X. I don't have a board or ram, I would probably sit on the CPU for a month or 3. These prices are CND, so like half price to you guys down south Should I bother? Or should I save my cash and go with a 3rd gen? This would replace my 3770K system, and put my X58 into retirement.

This would replace my 3770K system, and put my X58 into retirement. LOL. No it won't. You know you'll hang on to both those rigs. Buy 3rd gen if you're replacing. Always buy current if you're replacing.

I'm on the fence with Ryzen. Very expensive now, a year later goes cheap.
I bought my 2700x for double the price tag it is today. That said... I should have waited.
Now is the time to buy Zen+ (2700x) and not 3000 series. 4000 series is right around the corner.
Anything you buy today is going to outdated in just months. It's a tough call.
Either way, would wait to see if a 600 series chipset will be released with Ryzen 4000 series chips.

Oh yeah, I couldn't get rid of them. Last winter I put my R3F, X5690, and 6GB STT Chrome for 250-300 I think, No bites at all. I was shocked. Was supposed to go for a Ryzen.. probably why it didn't sell.. She will sit in a box beside my RF X48.. unless my youngest wants to take it over when the time is right. I built that rig with main parts entirely from OCF when they were pretty much new.
My Z77 is my main system, and it still rips pretty good. In Aida64 its still upper midrange, not bad for 7 years, almost 8 I guess. My brother gave it to me a couple of years ago thinking it was dead. Nope not dead, not the best clocking chip according to the net, I still get my 1ghz+ oc so its fine.

If you wanted cheap Ryzen fun that won't break the bank,
Find 370x chipset (ROG preferred) and first gen. Or maybe Ryzen Athlon 200ge for example.
That will get you set up on the platform and you can slap any cpu AM4 into that board.
Pay attention to VRMs on these boards. My B450-I which is itx has a better VRM setup. The draw back it's itx. So only a PCI-E 16x slot and that's it. But the board has all the bells and whistles.
Definitely research, ask a bunch of questions.

The X470 Tachi Ultimate (That's what I'm running here) is an excellent board with the good VRM phase you'd want. The newer X570 Phantom Gaming X is also good and has the higher VRM phase like the Aqua has. Even the MSI offerings aren't that bad, I'm sitting on an X570 MEG ACE and it's not bad once you figure out the BIOS and yes it has a good VRM setup too. Those three I have and all are just fine. I did manage to kill the Phantom earlier while doing a subzero prep but was 100% my fault, I believe it can be fixed and will check on that one day (CPU Socket replacement).
The only thing about the newer 3000 chips is they will not make it easy to get your USB going with anything but Win 10. Done easily enough with a 2000 series CPU but they obviously have microcode in them that doesn't let it install USB drivers for anything aside from Win 10 and will in fact shut down any of those already working with an older chip. That happened when I popped the 3600x in and my USB drivers in Win 7 just quit working, could not get them working again until I dropped the 2700x back in. Even if doing an install, it claimed it was successful with the install but they still didn't work.
Just be aware of that issue with the 3000 chips.
EDIT: The USB issues doesn't seem to affect Linux installs, tried it with the latest version of Mint and everything worked as it should, 3600x and the MEG ACE.

Well, I didn't buy one, though I really wanted to, and still do kinda.. Though I did want the newest, but at that price point, I know intel works ok, and I don't run Cinibench that much.. I transcode videos all the time, but my GPU does most of the heavy lifting there. Ill wait and see what Intel drops on us next.. they should be competitive on pricing this time around.

Find a low end option for now. Ryzen 1200 or 1400 for example. Ryzen Athlon is cheap 50$ u.s. for example.
I had gotten a 1200, 1400 athlon 200 and 220ge processors. Cheap fun to play around with. Get a feel for the board and such.
Get a high end chip later, hope the 3000 series chips price fall like the 2000, while the 4000chips will be yet faster and just as expensive as 3000 series.
The 4000 series chips, I'm hoping match current Intel IPC. that would be nice.

The lower 2000 series chips are VERY affordable right now, tempting to look at price-wise for a low power daily setup.

USB3 on Zen2 might need an inf file to be edited, although I just refreshed an install on my C6H with just a USB built using the Asus ez installer tool and all USB ports are operational.

They are very affordable right now, I am very frugal right now while she is in school, everything is on me so.. her, 2 kids, car, bills, wish I learned to juggle when I was a kid lol. But yeah, I was going to scoop one and sit on it for a little bit, then grab a board.. but by the time all the time goes by, coulda had something newer and maybe better. I guess well see what happens when Intel drops us a fresh bucket of slop. Part of me still wants to pull the trigger, but I've got enough regret in my life.
